I don't want to get too ahead of myself, but as bad as Gus has been, we are fortunate that we did not get Chip Kelly. I am glad that we dodged that bullet.

Chip Kelly is an innovative offensive mind that would make a great offensive coordinator, but his philosophy only works in college. And never should a head coach have 100% control of roster decisions. He needs a general manager.... the Eagles HAD a ton of talent, but they just blew it. No playmakers on that offense anymore, which is what that offense is dependent on. It misses Maclin, Jackson, and McCoy. And Murray is a terrible fit for that offense... I still don't understand that signing. Chip Kelly's eventual firing will be because he's a terrible general manager.
Kelly's probably not a terrible coach, but it's becoming increasingly more difficult to be a good coach and a good personnel guy at the same time. It can't be easy to have to have difficult contract negotiations and then ask guys to play hard for you.
I always thought it was silly that so many people thought that his hurry up offense was some how innovative.

Coaches in the NFL have been using it for years, it's just that NFL coaches already know there is a limit to how long you can stay ahead of the defense enough to effectively run the hurry up.

NFL defenses can adjust on the fly and even with the smartest and most experienced QB on the field, there is a limit to their ability to adjust real time to counter the defense and keep the hurry up going.

Coaches like Kelly might be able to script well enough to keep college kids on their heels, but he's not going to be able to do that to a bunch of pros. His offense will just hurry itself right into the teeth of the defensive adjustments.

Yup, just like when folks were asking us to do the same when we weren't moving the ball well last season.

When you aren't executing, the only thing you're hurrying up is the pace of your opponent's scoring.  Sinking yourself even faster.

Imo the greatest hurry up offense was the early '90s Bills with the K-Gun offense. But they were great not because of scheme, but talent. Jim kelly, andre reed, and thurman thomas, lofton ect.

Chip kelly is trying to force a system, when he should try to create something for the talent he has.

But saying that. Gus is doing the same on defense. Forcing this leo/otto d, when maybe a different d would benefit our players.
Lol at those who picked Kelly
Chip would probably be better if he had someone else in charge of personnel, he gutted the team for misfits.

Kelly is on drugs

I picked 3rd option..... not voting. ... they both suck
Kelly is better when you only compare coaching, but overall he's a bigger detriment to the Iggles than Gus is to the Jags.

Kelly

Gus is 11-30
Gus has yet to lose his team. Kelly appears to have lost his.

Murray has to be kicking himself for not signing with the Jaguars.  Not that our line would punch open the holes he needs but what an ill fit for him.  Chip believes in himself way too much and thought his system was player proof.  Will he learn?  It can be hard to be an authoritarian dealing with kids that have to keep their scholarships to the professional league where players can get enough on film to blow you off.

This is the biggest lie being spread about Chip Kelly. Sure his philosophy of being in 2-minute drill for the entire game was unconventional and looked great early on , however I don't see anything innovative in his plays, or play-calling. Did you see any innovative screens, guard pulls or heck even matching number of blockers to pass rushers in yesterday's game? The Eagles should send him to Tennessee if they can and then let us knock his teams around for a few years.

Worse.

Hubris.
Nothing Kelly does is innovative. It has been around a long time. I'd actually argue it is a watered down, simplied version of Marv Levy's old offense. Kelly the GM is getting Kelly the HC fired.

I also said it only works in college.

But he has inspired a lot of ideas across the league, Belichek included ( <a class="bbc_url" href='http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2012/10/oregon_coach_chip_kelly_says_h.html'>http://www.oregonlive.com/ducks/index.ssf/2012/10/oregon_coach_chip_kelly_says_h.html</a> ). He's not a very good head coach, but I think he'd make a really good offensive coordinator in the nfl. He is too stubborn as a head coach to adjust his system to fit to his personnel, and isn't good at choosing personnel to fit his system.

Not that Kelly has had far and away better talent, right?
Who is the better head coach? Kelly. His NCAA record speaks for itself.

Who is the better NFL head coach? Well, that's kind of like asking which you'd rather use to put out a fire: gasoline or acetone. Bradley has shown more aptitude as a pro head coach, probably owing to his having years of experience as a pro coach before getting a head job.
