Quote:Not to mention how we know a blitz is coming, but Olson never calls a screen or draw. He always calls intermediate routes in those situations. ...crazy
That's a bortles thing. He can hot route. Unless he isn't allowed.
7 plays inside the ten 5 runs with shoelace. I think hes a good back but that ratio is too high. Robinson was on another planet tonight and he got no redzone targets when one on one. Theyll look at that.
i know Gus was tired of it after those 3 runs stopped when they showed sidline Gus was giving Olsen an earfull. next was spread and scored

Hopefully he learnt a lesson on how easy it should be to score with Hurns,A-Rob,Yeldon and Thomas on the field at the goal line.
i honestly think Olsen has done a great job giving our playmakers a chance to do big things. i definitely think he needs to be a little more fearless int he redzone as well. make #80 work for that payday we gave him man, seriously.

I bet my buddy $10 the 1st offensive play call would be playaction. I won.

So how much did you lose on the outcome of the game?

rocdee, this is the one time you make a bad thread, but actually make sense.

Nothing. We just like to make bets on what the next play call will be and it is typically easy to predict.

I figured Olson would surprise them on the 1st play instead of running.
this teams identity should be play action to set up the run

The more I look at it, this offense generates sacks.  What do I mean by that?  For most teams, there are built in hot routes on every play.  What's a hot route?  A hot route means that any given receiver is HOT when the guy accross his face BLITZES.  That means that he breaks of his route as a sight adjustment so that the QB has a quick option to beat the blitz.

Our offense on the other hand has none that I can tell.  I saw several occasions where they brought 5+ and we were still in a route concept where everyone was running vertical.  If it was 3rd and 20 it wouldn't be as big a deal, you have no choice.  But I am talking about 1st and ten in the plus side of the field.  a Nine yard slant is better than a 5 yard sack any day of the weak.

You are exactly right! I've been asking for a check down or hot route integrated into our offense. But this team is lackinga visionary and leader. Imagine what the offense could do with more opportunities and sustained drives?

Your last sentence is true, only if you are week.

Kidding aside, I feel like Bradley and the staff do not let Bortles check out of a play or call an audible - regardless of a hot route. I feel like that one play where he faked the snap and saw the blitz was indicative of the chains holding him down. What do I know though...

I feel like he had a canny ability of checking out of a play and into the right one, which was evident during the preseason on numerous occasions...

Terrible play caller, especially in the redzone.

Almost lost us the game.

Do we know it's Olson?  Or is Gus influencing the play calling?

We've seen Olson call some good streaks at times.

You would think after the red zone debacle in London Gus would have prepped the team on future goal line situations. But nope. We couldn't even attempt a naked bootleg. No fade route so let's run up the middle. No misdirection at all. Pathetic. This is coaching.
Our Oline is just bad in the red zone

There bad in general. But that's why you need to mix it up on the goal line. Why bother just kick the field goal in 1st and goal next time.

Late in the game we scored when we went with 5 receivers and empty backfield.  Then guess what, tada, TD on the first play.

I don't understand why they want to run tight formations when we are at the 5 yard line and then run it 3 straight times.  Whatever the problem is, it needs to be fixed.

We've got A Rob, Hurns, Walters, Greene, JT, Harbour, Yeldon and D Rob all who can catch.  Yet we keep trying to run it in. Wallbash

Our Center was manhandled in the redzone. He was absolutely bullied.
