Quote:Yep.

This team probably doesn't win a game thus far without Bortles.

He makes mistakes but he makes so many plays too. He along with Hurns and ARob are lone bright spots.

The OL is stupid bad. They can't run or pass block. HOW DOES THAT HAPPEN?

This, Bortles needs to cut down on mistakes, but the team is put on his back with a bad run game and terrible overall defense. His gunslinging gets us in trouble, but also the reason we stay in some of these games.
Agree with you High Score, he is winding up the throws some. His throws on the run were nice and soft with good touch today. So he is improving there. It does look like the pressure makes him go back to his base tendencies.

Quote:Wow!!! was it really that high? Nice.
It wasn't. I entered the numbers wrong in the calculator.

The 23 TD's record is pathetic,14 qb's threw 23+tds last season. Im so happy we finally have a qb who will easily break it.

Quote:I'm worried about his mechanics. They appear to be reverting back. He is dropping the ball really low in his throwing motion.

Hopefully he continues to work on mechanics and footwork in the offseason

Some of those ducks he throws make it difficult to catch, requiring body catching

Stupid metric system.

It did seem too high for what his numbers were today, but it doesn't matter what it is if the Jags can find a way to win.

I'd much rather have BB5 have a bad rating and win then a good rating and lose.
Quote:He was terrible. Jittery in the pocket and his throws were wobbly all game. He took a step back today.

He wasn't good, but I was actually encouraged by what I saw.  He doesn't let mistakes get to him.  He was under pressure all day consistently.  That certainly has an impact.  He needs to improve, but man, so nice to have a QB that overcomes deficiencies.

He threw for 380 yards last week, after getting sacked 6 times and pummeled all game. The intangibles are there, he just needs a running game and pass protection he can trust. He was holding onto the ball too long today, which isnt 100% his fault. Blame goes to the line, and the coaching staff as well.

I wonder how much this has to do with his shoulder injury.  It's not like he's been untouched enough to let his shoulder heal up...

Bortles hasn't been on the injury report since week 6, where he didn't miss a single practice rep. Next excuse?
For comparison, Andy Dalton had this kinda game against the Steelers but no one is complaining about that win, just that he was clutch when it mattered.

Quote:I'll take his 2 TDs and 1 INT with the win EVERY time.
This sounds like a Tebow plug. Almost the exact same wording too.

Bortles needs to play better. With 4 t/o we should have been doing a lot better than a penalty enabled field goal. But Either way I will take it. Ugly and all. Its great to win.

What in the name of....?

Sorry Rob but this has nothing to do with Teblow, plug or anything.

If Bortles' worst day consists of 2 TDs and 1 INT (with a win, mind you), the QB is the LEAST of our worries.

Never mind the fact that he's ONLY in his second year.

Sure, he has made bad mistakes but he has also made incredible plays on a regular basis - most of which you don't really cite (like extending plays with his legs and throwing on the run).

Don't get me wrong, he needs to get better and shore up the couple mistakes that he makes but let me remind you again, he is in his second year.

I will take him and our young offense any day.
In year two, at age 23, with ZERO running game and an OL that is like Jekyl and Hyde with their pass blocking...he is doing better than I could have ever expected.  Not to mention the guy was a raw prospect coming out.

He is special.

He is the future.

We finally have a QB with some balls.

He is going to be a damn good one in time.

He has a terrible head coach and defense too. Greg Olson has been great

Yes.

If we can gain competency at head coach and find something that resembles a defense, Blake and the offense are good enough to take this team to a championship.

I still don't think Olson is the long term answer at OC but he's far better than Jedd.

Quote:He's definitely got some more learning to do.  Being able to make short completions, and doing a better job of finding an open receiver.  He had some bad throws that should have been picked off.

But the thing is, despite his bad day, he keeps throwing TDs. He's got 19 now.  With just one game past the mid-season mark, he's just a few short of the Jaguars record.

I'm not ready to anoint him as a top-5 QB.  But I feel good about him leading the Jags in the future.

Why did he have a bad day?  The OLine didnt give him any time.. and TJ Yeldon struggled on a few run plays..
I would be happy with this Stat sheet last year, but expect a little more this year. Still happy they won and the fact that I expect more is a good feeling also.
My hope is that when rashaad green comes back it takes away bortles tendency to hold the ball so long. It really looked like green was going to be blakes check down target when nothing is open down field. Green has a great ability to find space and move the chains. Can you imagine the offense if Blake makes the safe smart play instead of hero balling on every play?!
