On one hand Blake is a monster prospect. He's not playing like a pro qbs yet. His style is backyard chucker. I really hope he doesn't make a career out of big empty numbers and high turnovers.

If he can mentally improve and be smarter and think of his position on the field rather than gunslinger every play I could see the potential to be a perennial top tier qb.

He's got a long ways to go.

Playing behind a terrible O-line with zero running game and a terrible head coach and terrible defense.....I'll say he's pretty mentally strong. See his stats vs. playoff QB stats.....we would be a playoff team if you improve the Jags weak areas. Those areas haven't been addressed in Gus' 3 years.

I don't care who says it, its a troll post. You should know as well as anyone what that is. He's using the should've, could've, would've crap. The touchdown happened!

Feels like the mental issue is a lack of trust in the short yardage guys. Just needs to realize he's not alone out there, its OK sometimes to chuck it away or dump it off.

Well there's no denying a better all around team and coaching would make Blake look a lot better if he's winning. Hell if he stayed the same and we're winning I couldn't bark at that too much. However I think of things like when Eli Manning won the first Super Bowl and the Giants were borderline mediocre. Eli was a big play Qb and was sort a gunslinger like Blake is now. But then he'd turn the ball over like crazy. But something changed. Granted the defense was stout and the coaching staff was great. But the biggest improvement was Eli took care of the ball and closed out the year and had an amazing playoff run and the rest is history.

My point being that you can have other prices around you be better but if the turnovers are not resolve it can derail a great run. Yes the coaching, defense and special teams need drastic improvement. But Blake needs to make the biggest of them all. Better to start approaching that now then when our team is stacked and finding out that Blake still has a turn over tendency.

Exactly. No ones going to accuse Blake of being a check down master if he does it when necessary.

Blake won't have a turn over tendency in the future. He's improved 5 STRAIGHT YEARS including college. The kid is the real deal. The problem is the defense has gotten WORSE 4 straight years.
You know what? Blake is a bust and lets go draft another QB next year. lol. Some of ya'll are a joke and can't appreciate a good qb on our hands.

Bortles will end up being the best Jags draft pick in their history.....mark my words. Bortles and A-Rob recently are the only good picks the Jags have had. You wonder why we suck every year, it's because we have the worst record of selecting busts in the NFL.

Add Linder and Telvin to that list.

Maybe a little Colvin and hopefully Fowler.
People that think Bortles is capped and hobbled by the gunslinger mentality are watching the same games?  Last year we were all rah rah because the guy could scramble and make plays with his feet.  The guy is hanging in there and scanning the field and that is an issue?

Seriously BB is a burning sun of optimism on the field.  His development is the only thing that is making the dismal record even remotely tolerable.  Can you imagine what it would be like watching this team with someone like Henne manning the helm?

.... shudder.

EDIT:

And yes I believe you have to start winning.  This team does need to win but this just might not be the year.

If Henne was QB, A-Rob and Hurns would be #60-#70 ranked WRs instead of #10-#15 range

Pretty much.

Put the number 12 on the front, and the name "Luck" on the back and all of a sudden they'd be praising him.

Canton talk.

Amazing how the talking heads dwell on Blake picks, yet its never 12's fault.
Quote:Let me educate you......Allen Robinson is #8 in NFL in yards and #125 in YAC. If you have 707 yards and only 91 YAC.....it shows you Bortles is making these players.

If A-Rob was truly special like aj green, Dez, or Antonio brown....he would be top 20-30 in YAC. He's not.

Not my fight but, you're not "educating"

A-Rob has been making some of the toughest, most well-contested 50-50 balls I've seen from a Jaguars player. Bortles is great, maybe potentially elite. But Allen Robinson is a top tier receiver with #5 throwing him the ball or not. He's the same talent, he just benefits from talent throwing him him the ball. Point is, you'd take Allen Robinson over James Jones because James Jones isn't going to have 707 yards through 8 games. Henne throwing him the ball he'd still put up better number than a James Jones would with Henne tossing him the rock
Why can't Bortles and AR15 both be great?

Bortles has shown to make a play, on the run, throw on a rope.

AR15 has shown the ability to go up and get that jump 50-50 that Bortles loves throwing to him.

AR15 isn't supposed to be a YAC guy.

Greene and Lee are more YAC guys, throw to them on the run, slant, middle cross, etc.

Down the sidelines Arob isn't going to have much chance to get YAC. He's gonna make a catch and go down, or get pushed OB.

That's what we wanted him for right?

Every team needs a guy to go up and get that 50/50 ball.

Hurns will be our "go-to"

Walters is sure hands.

Greene and Lee need to be our over the middle YAC guys, especially with JT80 still struggling to get right.
QB Blake Bortles career stats

2014 475 att, 280comp, 58.9%, 2,908 yards, 6.1avg, 11TD, 17INT, 37 20+, 6 40+, (Sack 55), 69.5 Rate

2015 311 att, 175comp, 56.3%, 2,193 yards, 7.1avg, 17TD, 10INT, 39 20+, 6 40+, (sack 25), 83.2 Rate

If you look above at the stats notice how he is only 715 yards short of last year's total yards thrown, and he has already thrown six more Touchdowns this season than all of last years!  He has 2 more 20+ yard passes already, and the same amt of 40+ as last year... he hasn't been sacked nearly as often & his Rating is way higher this year due to it.... He needs better protection from the Oline & for TJ Yeldon to be more productive so that teams have to stack the box instead of dropping back...

I would like to see him finish the season with 16 or less INTs though....

Although I agree with you, not sure he will throw 6 in the last 8 games. I'm ok if he throws 1 more per game as long as he continues to throw 2 TD's per game.

33 TD's and 16 interceptions would certainly look really nice.
