Though in all fairness the special teams doesn't have them down 21 points

Eh, they hung around but fell short. GG

Thursday night football is terrible
Quote:Looks like the game isn't on CBS anymore on Thursday nights...

Oh well, I am not going to find a stream to watch a game between the bungals and brownies.

I even started a thread yesterday to complain about the requirement to have NFL Network half the season. Fortunately I could talk my mom into buying the Cox sports pack and watched the game on my 42-inch TV.
Quote:I just checked the stats of this game on the NFL site.

It has the Bengals with 0 penalties. Is that correct? Wow!!!

They should have had a big one for helmet to helmet contact on a third down play. I was wondering how seven officials could have missed it - blatant personal foul there. Screwed the Browns out of a first down.
Johnny played well, but I have no idea what they expected there. He was not given a full set of weapons, his defense was soft as cotton, and they took his legs away by telling him to stay in the pocket and NOBODY was getting open unless he bought them extra time with his legs. Call it good defense by Cincy or terrible receivers, but that was pathetic. I have no doubt he will somehow get blamed for that loss and be sitting whenever Josh is healed

His accuracy overall was better this game (and obviously some decent passes were dropped), but I'm still waiting for a normal snap -> dropback -> plant -> weight transfer -> follow through/accurate pass. Even the passes where he has a perfectly clean pocket he was still throwing it with an off base, one foot, falling away, sidearm, etc...not to mention not even considering a second progression until after he has tried to escape the pocket. All of the sandlot football stuff is fun and all (and sometimes successful), but if you don't have the fundamental goods when the offense is functioning right you still don't have much substance overall.

He has arm talent, but there is no way he is going to be successful until a lot of those things change...and considering they haven't changed very much in 1.5 years I still don't have a lot of faith that they do.

I was taken aback as to how flat-footed he seemed when he held his position in the pocket. Normally, you see a QB trying to keep up on his toes and constantly shuffle his feet to get his hips in the right spot but it just looked like Manziel was standing there! I don't know how to feel about this.

Not if your team is the one that's winning.

The NFL tries to make them good games by making them divisional games, except for the Thursday night game that opens the season with the defending Super bowl Champ.

Every team gets a game on Thursday night so you are going to get bad teams playing on Thursday nights.

That was the Bengals defense. Marvin Lewis told Tracy Wolfson his defensive strategy for the second half was keeping Johnny Manziel in the pocket.

As for the defense, Joe Haden and Donte Whitner were out with concussions. They aren't that soft every week.
Bengals look really solid this year. Even when they play terrible (like last week against Pitt) they still have enough talent and find a way to win.

They have 3 or 4 tough games left on their schedule:

vs Texans

@ Cardinals (very tough)

vs Rams (tough, imo)

@ Browns

vs Steelers (tough)

@ 49ers

@ BRONCOS (very tough)

vs Ravens

If they can get through the next 6 games with only 1 or 2 losses,, that Week 16 game @Denver is going to be HUGE for playoff seeding implications. That game is scheduled for MNF. The Broncos will definitely want some payback,, as the Bengals beat them last season on MNF in Cincy.

The Broncos possibly may have a loss or two by then also. They have 2 or 3 tough games before that one.

vs Patriots

@ Steelers

vs Raiders

It's likely the Bengals and Broncos will have similar/identical records by their big Week 16 matchup.

What are you talking about? You mean the hit on Johnny? When he was a running back?

The one where Marvin Lewis successfully challenged the spot of the ball. In was during the third quarter.

I know Josh gives them the best chance to win right now - but why draft Johnny if you are not willing to see what you have? For the first half he added some excitement to the game.

I'd like to see the Browns commit to him, have him practice with the first team and build some confidence with them, and have him play against a variety of teams. I think he may get killed out there, but who knows, he could win some games. At least they would know what they have and go forward accordingly.

He was a running back - no helmet to helmet penalty applies. (I think Johnny may have few less brain cells after that shot.) I worry for his health if he keeps running around like that. But that seems to be what his game is all about. Hope he's heavily insured.

So HTH fouls are never called when a linebacker hits a running back like that?
The Bengals adjusted and Manziel was forced to stay in the pocket. His physical limitations showed themselves.

Another [BLEEP] loss.
