The Lions are a mess. They're gonna be in a total rebuild. I wonder if they would be open to letting Johnson go.
I wouldn't trade anything higher than a third round pick for him. He's great, but he'll be 31 next season.
Imagine a team with A-Rob. Hurns, and Calvin Johnson.
Thoughts?
No, we have receivers and don't need to give away draft picks.
We need defense! I wonder if Sea. loses today if they would be willing to trad Kam now

You want a dude who doesn't even have the integrity to show up and play and uphold his contract?
No thanks!
Calvin Johnson for a 3rd round pick....reality check.

....and we're done here.
A Z style receiver for bortles? We don't have one. We have two Solid X receivers that can play slot as well.
I think all of you really underestimate how valuable a true Z really is in this offense. It would put this team over the top. Its why I hope Caldwell keeps drafting WR's every draft. Just for those who don't know what im talking about "Z receiver". A Z receiver is the guy on the outside that goes downfield. He's your burner and usually your best pass catcher. They are incorrectly referred to as "true #1 receivers". Calvin Johnson, AJ Green, Randy Moss, Terrell Owens, Dwayne Bowe, etc. They usually are the best receiver on the team. Jimmy Smith, Mike Walker, and Tiquan Underwood were all Z style receivers. High bust rate obviously due to requirement of a complete set of skills
They also line up behind the line of scrimmage a few yards opposite of the "Split end or X receiver" as to allow for the TE to be eligible to catch a pass. (This is why speed/Acceleration have to be elite). So yes, I would trade for Johnson but only for a 1st rounder or a 2+3 rounder.

That's what we drafted Lee for. He's not healthy.
And Seattle won a Super Bowl with no Z reciever.
With the emergence of ARob and Hurns, don't want Calvin or his high price tag.. Now, if there was a high profile pass rusher available, different story..

Lee could do it but I doubt he'd be successful at it. I see him being a dominant Slot guy honestly. Having a True Z isn't nor hasn't been required to win superbowls. The patriots rarely had one outside of Moss. ITs just simply put a "cheat code" that has a huge ripple affect on your team.
Got a True Z receiver? Congratulations, Your 2nd best receiver will likely be open from now on. Now your offense has the ability for big plays at any time. Oh wait, Look, Your offense is usually on the field more. Now your defense is more rested throughout the game. Wow. What a package. Sign me up.
With the signing bonus Detroit would have to accelerate onto this year's cap in order to trade him, it would make is virtually impossible to do so. Wasn't his bonus in the $40 million range?

What is the last team to win a SB with a true number 1 WR? Colts in 06? Our WR are fine, we need a defense if we want to start making the playoffs
tbh, I would rather trade for Golden Tate to put in the slot. Would be the perfect comp. to Hurns and A Rob on the outside.

LOL, ^^^ that dude needs to learn how to catch the ball first... But I hear ya. If he learns that, he may be good...
Walters... On the other hand, CAN catch the ball... Just sayin...

You're making too much fuss over a few rookie drops, but the point is even stronger with Walters on the roster. Trading for a slot guy is stupid.
I don't understand the talk about Greene not catching the ball. He's had good hands outside of his last game where he was likely playing with the thumb he needed surgery on. That first game against the Panthers he was automatic. Blake was throwing to him all the way down for a TD.

yep ^
He has better hands than Hurns already. Much ado about nothing.
