I was listening to the Setting the Edge podcast the other day and they were discussing the topic of taking Jamal Adams at 4 and how he would become one of the highest paid safeties in the league based off where he'd slot in on the rookie contract scale.

Do y'all think this would be a factor in our decision to take him there or do y'all think if you trust your scouts and if he's graded out as an impact player at his position you take him and pay him accordingly?

Would maybe reaching a few spots for a position that earns more in the league add more value to that player bc you can have him at a discount for several years?

I'm curious to see what y'all think about it.
It's not like we're strapped for cash.  Anyone we draft there is going to be towards the top paid at their position.  Take the player that grades the best based off need.  At the moment, I'd probably say Adams fits that bill.

Were in a good enough cap situation that the kind of money we're talking about here really doesn't matter. All it would mean is we're paying premium money for a premium player.

Cap situation would be the least of my worries at this point

They specified SS, Thomas/Smith/McCourty/Mathieu would obviously make it not true at S overall. Berry and soon to be Jefferson will have blown the SS scale out of whack compared to what they were theorizing anyway.

RB would be the position you don't want to take for contractual value. Elliott already is the highest guaranteed money RB in the entire league.
