You don't want to see it anyway.
Quote:I really think we should lock up hurns and ar-15 sooner than later, cuz when the rookie deals are up were going to probably have to break the bank for one or both. Front load a smaller contract now and take advantage of the unreal ant of cap space we have now.
OR... We let them play out until we can actually give them a new contract and use the cap space to sign some defensive players we desperately need.
Quote:Gotta imagine Hurns will want money. What's an undrafted player make anyway?

Hurns is making $510,000, the minimum this year for a 2nd year player. He's also counting 1/3rd of his original $5000 signing bonus. He's sure to sign a nice extension this offseason.

Robinson's base salary isn't much more at $580,000, however he's also counting 1/4 of an original signing bonus worth just over $870,000. Next year ARob will have a $740,000 base salary, and then he'll likely sign an extension in the 2017 offseason.

Can Hurns even be extended this offseason?

Even if he can, no way would I extend him before Robinson. That's just setting the table for Robinson to want more than Hurns next year, who will within a couple of years feel that he's underpaid by comparison and want a new contract that pays him more than A-Rob. Do both deals at the same time.
I'm not sure how yearly salary cap is done. But,, since the Jags have alot of cap space available, could having to sign these young players to bigger deals pretty soon come into play?

If the Jags use alot of cap space by spending heavy in FA next year,, will that limit how much they can spend on alot of these young guys in the next 2 years?

I really don't know.

But if that is the case,, I wouldn't like to see them go crazy in FA spending that may end up hindering bring able to keep a really solid young player.

It's how business is done in the NFL and players understand that. You can't go about thinking how signing others will psychologically affect them. You extend Hurns next offseason in lieu of risking him hitting free agency the following year. Robinson, just like Bortles, Linder Telvin Smith and Colvin are all under contract for an additional year so there's no need to do anything with them just yet. They'll all probably get extensions in 2017.
