The guy has missed 3 XP and multiple game winners. How are you standing behind the man?
You know where you are. .. lol
One thing Jags can do is cut him since he does not have a guaranteed contract. Everyone got wowed when the kid hit from 60 at the Scrimmage in early August... He also kicked well in preseason games...
So team thought they were equal and Steelers offered something for a kicker...
I somewhat wonder if lack of confidence kept Gus from trying FG instead of going for it on 4th down???
Hasn't Gus been talking about accountability?

LOL, he's talking about it. But he has no idea what the definition of it is. He hears these buzz words, and then he figures if he uses them people will think he's smart.
Pretty soon, he'll be using words like "pro-active", "synergy", "globalization", "leverage" and "paradigm shift"...

That's literally the shortest field goal possible. Even Myers can hit that.
The SS Myers is a sinking ship; time to jump off this one.
Why does he keep on missing the extra points?
Quote:Why does he keep on missing the extra points?
Because he's terrible.
Why not fire him for Scobee? Until they can find someone better?

Because Scobee was judged to be worse?
I don't buy the whole, "There's no one better than Myers out there," argument. We're not talking about trying to find a QB on the street who can outplay Bortles from day one. We're talking about finding a guy who can reliably use his foot to put the ball between the uprights. The Steelers found Chris Boswell on the scrap heap, and he's 7-for-7 since taking over. Don't try to tell me that there isn't someone out there who could do better than 73% on field goals, 84% (!) on PATs and can keep his kickoffs inbounds.
I guess they simply don't want to look (spend money or time on it)? I often wonder whether its the head coach Gus or GM Dave one of them must be stubborn (in that they feel a certain thing is a certain way and try hard to prove it to others) like you know running Toby Gerhart four times for one yard at the goalline despite most knowing that is a horrible idea...
This will all be a funny memory when we draft Aguayo and he is hitting 50+ yd missiles right down the middle.
There are only a handful of decent kickers available, but it's something worth pursuing THIS WEEK.
Jason Myers still being on the team gives me bowel movements. Are we seriously waiting until another Colts debacle happens before we start trying out other kickers?
At least try out other kickers, Caldwell.
Quote:Hasn't Gus been talking about accountability?
Yeah... we'll probably hear about Carson Tinker being benched shortly.
He made the PFF's worst player at any position list for Kicker
Kicker: Jason Myers, Jaguars
On a day where few kickers struggled, Myers makes this team thanks to a missed extra point, as well as some not-so-great kickoffs.
==================
Why not cut the kid and hire Scobee back, at least people liked Scobee...

I believe the team only arrived back in Jacksonville on Monday. They might bring some guys in to try out this week, or, given the bye, they might wait until next week to see who hits waivers. They may even stick with Myers which is, imo, an indefensible move at this point.
I just feel like the rookie is quickly learning, and if we stick through these early struggles he very well may develop into a great kicker. As it is, his 73 percent on FGs is better than Adam Vinatieri, and his 58-yarder is tied for the longest FG this season.
When it comes to the extra points, they're no longer automatic. I keep noticing extra point misses by many different teams each week. So far this season, 19 kickers have missed at least one extra point. and six have missed at least two. The Patriot's kicker even nailed the crossbar this past week, although it happened to still get in.
Meanwhile, keep in mind that on 3-point FGs, Myers is a perfect 6 for 6. He's just 2 for 5 over 40, but have a little patience. Granted it wouldn't hurt to look around a little, but the kid's got a strong leg and may still get his act together yet.
His kickoff's aren't bad either as he's basically right in the middle of the pack across the board. Well, at least aside from his league leading 2 kickoffs out of bound.
Still, a little patience might go a long ways.
Myers has a good leg. He just needs to be more consistent. Maybe instead of just cutting him and keep trying, there's another solution to help him get better. I'm thinking they can bring in former great kicker now retired to coach him to be more consistent. Maybe someone like Rob Bironas can help him refine his game. A little more consistency and Myers can be great.
Quote:I do believe he is not good nor really worth a roster spot but Im not sure what other options we have currently.
Well... he has certainly proven that he's not reliable in clutch situations. His college record wasn't even all that stellar either. Perhaps there just wasn't a lot of choices for Dave to pick from...
Whatever, first impressions are lasting impressions and you only get one chance at it. Jason hasn't made a good impression with those unreasonable fans who want their professional kicker to be fairly reliable from within a reasonable distance. I think we need to go back to the apple barrel and keep looking.
