Quote:I dont see how. I'm not debating that Harbor missed his assignment but yeah Joeckel has to recognize that and at least attempt to put a body on him. Free rushers like that can kill a season. Its the same thing as holding when you get totally beat.

Maybe its not the worst thing in the world but you look in the thread and you see people calling his play great. This is not great.

Not once in this thread did anybody use the word great to describe Joeckel's play so far.

As for that play I get what you're saying maybe Luke has to recognize that Harbor blew his assignment and adjust. The DE goes underneath Luke on a toss play though. If I'm Luke and I'm pulling, if that DE crosses my face for whatever reason I block him. If he goes underneath me and I'm able to keep moving up the second level, I would never guess that DE is making the play on a toss outside.

Assigning blame to Joeckel on that play is not fair IMO. Could he had made a spectacular play and covered Harbor's mistake? Yeah probably, but its clear that Harbor was at fault.
Granted Luke was pulling on that Grant fumble but how do you simply walk by a guy running towards Corey?

Smack my head at LJ Wallbash

I saw Beadles get dominated a couple of times Sunday.

That's just silly. The rusher was behind LJ when it became clear that Harbor wasn't doing his job. Luke's job was to pull and Harbor's job was to block down on the inside rusher. All of that SHOULD have happened behind LJ. The thought that he should somehow stop his pull because the tight end screwed up is just ridiculous. As Gus says: "Just do you job!" Luke was doing precisely that. I played the game at the College level, and trust me, you don't pull to get around the corner (but look for anyone else who messed up). You just don't. You have to totally commit to get out there and make your block. If Harbor hadn't messed up, that might have been a pretty darn good play. He was really well teed up to make the down block. No clue as to why he didn't.

Great perspective.
Beadles is awful, but generally speaking, pass rush woes on the left side are more the fault of the left tackle than the left guard. That's not to slag on Joeckel, who has actually looked ok for the most part, nor is it to excuse Beadles, who is terrible, but I think it's more of a package deal in terms of problems on the left side.

I'd like to see what Bowanko can do at left guard. He played well for a sixth-round rookie at center last season, and if we go into next year with Linder at right guard and a pair of promising youngsters in Bowanko and Cann duking it out on the left, we've got a solid interior going. The coaching staff loves Shatley, too, so his name could end up in the mix.
