Frankly, I expected the Pats to re-sign or tag Hightower.
While LB is not a top priority in 2017 it could possibly be Poz's last year as a Jag. If the team has no plans to move Fowler to OLB should the Jags make a play here??
He's 26 and has been stellar for a number of years. He will be expensive but he also is entering the prime of his career. He's basically a complete SAM linebacker and a 3 down player. Telvin + Jack + Hightower sounds really good to me.
Does anyone know if he would fit the scheme?
My belief is a quality coaching staff builds a scheme around their talent.
If you can add talent like Hightower, you do it. Just sharpen your pencils and figure out a scheme around that kind of talent!
Would love to add him. As someone else said
Telvin-Jack-Hightower would be amazing
Does he want more money, or less but with a great chance to get another ring with the GOAT QB and coach combo.

He already has 2 rings. He is probably looking to get paid
We'd have to break the bank for him. We have the resources to do so. Wouldn't hurt. But this only makes sense if they plan on kicking Jack inside and pushing Poz down the depth chart or off the roster IMHO.
Teams are in nickel 2/3 of the time now, and a decent portion of what's left over is dime. We aren't signing Hightower and making Jack or Telvin a guy who plays a quarter of the snaps or less long term.

Did you just say figure out a scheme around the talent? Thank You !!! The Gus Era is finally over.

classic !!
I thought he was a inside linebacker? Wouldn't he just replace Poz and keep Jack at SAM? Either way I would love to have Hightower. This free agent market is weak with a lot of top talent players getting tagged. We can really sign a top CB, top G, and still sign Hightower. What will his contract look like?

Actually, that guy was pretty damn good.
We can sign him and cross-train him at the 3 LB spots while Poz keeps lining up the defense. Eventually we might have him split snaps with Skuta at OT...ehm SAM linebacker at some point, bring him along slowly!

I'll pose this to you since you love talking about schemes: how do you do this while playing nickel ~60% of your snaps? Obviously this is contingent on Smith continue his progression and Jack living up to his enormous potential, but it just doesn't make much sense to me to invest the (potential) amount of money in 3 LBers when you're not going to be playing at least one of them even half your snaps. Granted, Jack is talented enough to play a hybrid SS/LB/even nickel CB role, but I just really don't think this is the best use of our money. I'd rather invest that Hightower money into a legit SS or nickel corner.
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to have him since he is talented, but I'm having a tough time figuring out how it makes sense schematically or cap-wise.
could make a real good LOTTO for us. Pumped to see his grit at that spot!

Have Hightower and Poz play ILB roles with Smith and / or Jack playing coverage LB, and the other with the freedom to blitz off the edge (four Defensive players).
Keep three Defensive Linemen with one designated to pass rush, either Ngakoue or Fowler (three Defensive players)
Pull your SS off the field as Jack and/or Telvin perform his responsibilities. Bring in a third Corner to assist Ramsey, Amukamura and Gipson (four Defensive players).

Your last one was my thoughts. Slide Jack into a hybrid LB/SS in Nickel situations keeping Hightower and Smith on the field as well
