Of course, our first order of business is prevent Tom Brady from throwing to Rob Gronkowski. That falls on the defensive line. We can talk forever about trying to stop Gronk, but why not force Brady to throw the ball away or run with it?

Can you guys imagine how good this Dline would've been with a healthy Fowler and Marks? Even adding a healthy Andre Branch would be helpful.

They are playing pretty well for being as banged up as they are, but the season is very long and will take its toll on an already depleted unit.

I think Caldwell has put together a helluva defensive line when everyone is healthy and on the field.

We desperately need Marks back. I hope he can recover from his ACL ( along with Fowler ) our interior penetration leaves a lot to be desired.

Wow that sounded perverted.
I actually think we've gotten solid pressure up the middle. We are struggling to get pressure off the edge aside from Skuta on the third and longs.

Quote:When I watched the Patriots play it seemed that Tom Brady at times would lock on to Edelman instead of Gronk on most occasions, and hopefully House can shut down Edelman to where the team could focus more on stopping the Gronk.

Man, Edelman has developed into a fantastic WR. He's going to be hard to stop with them also trying to limit Gronk and pressure Brady.

It's a lot to ask, no doubt. But pulling off this game somehow someway would be a huge catalyst to turning around this franchise. No doubt about that, either.

Quote:If the Pats or any team saw a WR on defense in the red zone, they'd go after him immediately., and likely score anyway.

There would be no point.

Be myopic and believe there is no way a player can play another position for a play without being destroyed, but the fact remains that Arob has the skill set to line up at corner and play a zone in the red zone.  If the Patriots, or anybody got a runningback to the edge in a goal line situation with only one defender and Gronk blocking, it would be over, even if Gronk is blocking JJ Watt.

If the Jags wanted to take the risk of using their number one receiver in a red zone situation against Gronk is really the only question.

That is... By far... Not the only question.

Would you rather have Arod or Kam Chancellor guarding Gronk?

Just wondering, because Chancellor is bigger, stronger, and plays way more physical... Yet it still didn't stop Gronk from scoring three times in the SB.

Please stop calling him Arod, you're going to jinx him, lol.

Of course I would rather have Kam than Allen covering him.  Unfortunately, Kam doesn't play for us.  The question is, would you rather have House/Colvin trying to stop Gronk from catching a jump ball or Robinson?  I'd take my money on Robinson getting his hand on the ball before the former two.

Prob shoulda been more specific, but I don't think our interior play from our dline has been solid. I think the LBs bail out our Dline a lot on interior pressure.

Exactly... if we double and bracket Gronk (which he'll still make plays on) Edelman will have a field day.

Honestly there is no stopping the Pats unless you get to Brady early and often.

I think we'll be able to bottle up Lewis and Blount ok... but Brady is going to slice and dice our banged up secondary (he mighta done it to the healthy secondary)

I hope Marks comes back this week.... this game will be all on our Dline. Get pressure, hit him early, hit him often, hit him hard.

Kam not playing for us is not my point. My point is there are plenty of people that actually play D, with a better skill set than Robinson, that still can't defend Gronk.

To tell you the truth, I think our defensive players would have the edge over Robinson. If Allen Robinson did a jump ball with Gronk in a bball game, than yes, I think he'd have the edge.

If Robinson guarded Gronk on an inside slant, he'd score every time.

That is exactly the key to beating the Pats is getting to Tom Brady. Even then, you have to be a really good team to beat them.

How is nobody being able to shutdown Gronk relevant?  I'm talking about one particular scenario in one particular play.  If you can have any kind of success in shutting down the Gronk fades in the red zone, then you've taken a huge chunk out of the Patriots red zone offense.

Like I've already stated several times pretty clearly - I am not advocating in any way, shape, or form for Robinson to be covering Gronk.  There is zero reason for Arob to cover him on any routes to the middle of the field.  To be very clear, Robinson only comes in the game in jump ball scenarios and plays a zone on Gronk's sideline.  That is not crazy talk.  It's not some rare albino tiger occurrence.  It happens in football.

How is shutting down Gronk relevant? Because he has gone against the best defenders in the league without a hiccup, what do you think he'll be able to do to Allen Robinson?

That's just my point, if you put a WR on Gronk, that jump ball just got audibled to a slant.

This isn't sending your WR deep to guard against a Hail Mary, this is a WR going against the best TE in the league in the redzone.

Regardless if Robinson COULD win a jump ball, it would be a blood bath.

In summation.  He too good.  Don't try.

Oh no, by all means try. Just don't expect much.
If brady can torch the bills like that then we have little hope of stopping him.Gronk will get over 100 yards and at least a touchdown.

The offense needs to run the ball and sustain drives to keep bradys possesion to minimum.
