Let's not get carried away on having Young start. He definitely had a good game today, but it's one game in a much larger sample size of lackluster performances. It certainly would be nice to have more solid depth on the line though.
Quote:Id keep Young as the starter. Make Joekel compete for once.
Send Joekel to the Browns so he can block for Manziel again. He doesn't know how to block here.
Quote:Just last week people we're calling for Young's roster spot. Now he should start?
This board is bipolar.
I certainly was not calling for his spot...
Lets be honest here...
Luke has been given ample time to show improvement and he never fails to disappoint when he is in there. Its ok to call it like it is...
Luke is not the player we expected him to be either. That draft class overall was crap.
I agree, they should both start next week

So would you plug Joeckel in there next week and discount Young's performance this week?
It makes no sense to break up the continuity of success. Think man, think.

I could care less if Joeckel ever plays another snap. I'm just not ready to anoint Young as the answer to our problems. I'll give him credit for having a good game buy I'm also reminded he gave up 2 sacks in only 28 snaps last week.

Yes easily, assuming he's healthy. Until Joeckel got injured he played fine, are you going to discount his performance as well as Young's performance last week? I get people wanting to play the hot hand, but I'd wager that Young is not going to play like this every game.

I didn't say he is the answer to our problems.
He is certainly an upgrade over Joeckel and what I am saying is that he should continue to start, until proven otherwise.
We
KNOW that Joeckel is not the answer.

I guess this is where we differ in philosophy.
Consistency is probably the most important factor when it comes to the offensive line.
If your offensive line absolutely stoned arguably the best defensive line in the NFL, you keep going with those players. Key in on Young and watch him go 1-on-1 plenty of times.
I agree that Sam Young played well today. Replace joeckel with him though? I dunno... I prefer to be hung with a silk rope rather than shot with a silver bullet... but that's me.
try to trade cyprien before deadline?
Sample didnt play horrible but what do you base him out playing Cyp on? Tannehill still went 30/44 359 so it is not like he or the secondary shut the passing of the fins down?

Yeah, that's kind of a good point. I wonder what the verdict would have been if Cyprien was on the field for all those passing yards.

I base it off of him not playing out of position consistently, whiffing on tackles, and giving up big plays. I wish 1 guy could stop the entire opposing offense...
Too bad this game is played with 11 players on the field at once.

Umm, last week Young was a backup thrown into starter duty. This week he got the reps needed to prepare properly. Young has earned the right to start.
Joekel has done nothing prior to his injury to warrant him being given back his starter role. This is a no brainer.
Again...ZERO sacks against a great D line. ZERO Sacks!

I am not saying that one guy should be able to stop the entire opposing offense, what i am saying is, our secondary still played poor and Sample didnt do anything to cement himself as being a better player than Cyp.

Like my quote earlier, the fact that he did his job - and did it well as a rookie should warrant him another shot to start next week.
I can't tell you how many times Cyp has been caught out of position or whiffing on a tackle. He is not terrible, but he certainly is not good either. I really wish he would turn out to be the player we wanted him to become - the enforcer on the back end, let alone a sure-tackler.
I am so glad we did not acquire Suh, especially for an absurd amount....
Wake was absent, who was Suh, and Vernon let our O-line get under his skin.

As much back and forth goes on here, what else did you expect from the jungle lol.
