I'm glad I'm not the only fan who feels this way. Cuz yeah i feel like we have to start off on a bright spot

0-2 in season openers and getting out scored 62-20 combined in those two losses. Yeah it's a must win game.
It's a must keep close, if they get blown out then it's gg season.

62-19..but who's counting.

Quote:No it is one game and 1st of season. It is not a must win game for any team. 50% of NFL will be 0-1 after 1st week games.Really

This is true which is why I use words like "virtually" instead of saying it's a definite must win. It's just that the following three games look so tough it would really be nice to get this W. I'd be ok with a loss week one if say the team plays so well that we actually feel they have a shot against the Patriots in New England, so in that sense it's not really a must win.

Especially the 19-13 New Years Day win over the Colts in 2012!   :woot:
I don't view it as a must win.  I would be highly disappointed if we get blown out, and it looks like 2 years ago.

I just threw up in my mouth a little bit.
If we're able to beat the Panthers, morale and momentum could carry over to the Dolphins game and we could possibly be 2-0. Same thing goes for the Patriots, but that one will probably be difficult and as long as we stay competitive and keep it close, I'll be fine with losing it. The Colts game I really want to upset them and get the lead in the AFC South, so hopefully our team is on fire when that time comes. How awesome would it be to have a 3-1 or 2-2 record with this difficult starting schedule, and get Marks, Lee and JT back right after it? Winning the first game is important for gaining momentum and starting the season off in a positive direction. After getting crushed at the beginning of seasons, what would our players think after starting off possibly 0-4? They'd probably already mail the season in and doubt themselves and Bradley. I know I would.

This game represents one of the ones that falls in the 'win-able' category. The next several games following it are going to be more challenging teams, plus it's the season opener. So... I'd say yes; this game does represent a 'must win' because it will set the mood for the rest of the season. Nothing encourages winning like... winning, and losing has been a bad habit that the Jags need to get over. Absolutely... this is a must win for the Jaguars if they are going to convince anyone that they are ready to turn the corner on turning this franchise's losing ways around.
I will say this season opener feels like a must-win more than any previous season openers. This is supposed to be the turn-around season, so lets see some turn around!

It's not a must win but its a definitely can win and that's what is causing the intensity
To set the tone for a new season and new team, YES! Winning needs to be part of the culture and expect to win every game, no matter the opponet. Tired of the, "we had a shot, they fought hard, didn't capitalize on opportunity, etc". No more excuses!

I've gone schizophrenic because of the jaguars...

I think it's only been a month ago where I was shouting that we could be an 8-8 team.

But as the season gets closer, history begins to beat down my optimism. I think we can win this game, and I really want this win on Sunday.

But... how well does Bradley have this team prepared for Sunday? That's what has me worried.

It's good to know you're not on the roster. I have to think the Jaguars have far more character than that, and would realize just how tough of an opening schedule they just faced. I've seen teams start 0-4 and make the Playoffs. I'm thinking one even went the distance or close to it. I'd hope that even if they start 0-4, the tough schedule makes them that much better leading to a bit of a winning streak. If I were a Gus and sensed that any players was starting to give up after an 0-4 start, he'd be waived the next day.

I think we'll get there. This team has the feel of the '96 Jaguars who in the end shocked the football world. In '97 the Jaguars had to scratch and claw for their victories and had another great season, but in '98 and '99 there was this feel of invincibility. I'd love to have that again where it really doesn't matter who we face...we know we can win.

Every game should be a must win for the Jaguars at this point. We've lost so much that we have to get things going upward. Something this team hasn't experienced in a long time and that is momentum. Can be a powerful thing.

How many seasons do we have to start with a pretty lengthy losing streak? The players are humans and will think about that fact, its impossible not to. Not to say they'll give up, but they probably won't be high on morale if they start off 0-4 again. Lucky for them, the schedule gets a lot easier after those games and like you said, maybe we can get a winning streak going.
Every game until you have won the division, conference, and Superbowl is a must win. This is silly.

Nope....not a "must win"

a WILL WIN!
