Quote:I actually think pretty highly of Chase Daniel as a backup, and hope he finds his way here next offseason after his contract in KC expires. Theoretically, Murray will be ready to back Alex Smith up by then, leaving Daniel, who plays more like Bortles and is far more talented than Henne, to come to Jacksonville.
If the Jaguars decide to move on from Chad Henne in 2016, I agree that Chase Daniel would be a good choice to be the Jags # 2 QB behind Blake Bortles. If one combined the best attributes of another former Missouri QB Blaine Gabbert with Chase Daniel, people would probably be discussing that QB in the same conversation as Aaron Rodgers and Andrew Luck.
A major advantage the Jags would have to land Chase Daniel if he hits the open market as an UFA is the team's salary cap situation. Many teams can't afford to pay their # 2 QB much more than the NFL Veteran Minimum.
It's possible though that the Chiefs will decide to elevate Chase Daniel to the # 1 QB spot in 2016 instead of moving on from him. So much depends on how Alex Smith plays this season. If the Chiefs fail to qualify for the playoffs, Smith's future as a starter would seem to be in serious doubt.
