Excellent news but as we know, they can be plucked from the practice squad at any time of the season though. Sterling Must Stay. We recognized him first...

Don't we get a chance to activate them first if they get an offer?

Nope PS are free pickings to other 31 teams but they have to go on 53 roster. In the past I have heard when Jags have thought someone was interested in PS player they have signed him to 53 when it has happened at end of year.

Yea we could but we would have to cut somebody, who we kept over them so unless we really love them then most likely let them walk
Quote:So in other words, the practice squad of every team is a collection of rookies not good enough to make the Game Day 1 53 man roster.

The practice squad does not matter.
Actually a player could be eligible for the PS for his first three years in the NFL if he hasn't been on the active roster for an prolonged period of time. Not sure what that time is though. You could also hide an player that you covet on the PS for whatever reason...

I hope Capi gets time on the PS to develop. He's a guy I feel has a good skill set. He just needs some time to get better and develop physically and mentally. He is what IMO the practice squad is designed for.

We get the chance to match their offer to the former PS player even though he could refuse the offer.  If we did match the opposing team's offer, then we'd have to place him on our 53 man roster...

The PS is how we acquired Parnell (Thanks Dallas). It's a shame to develop a player and have him give that benefit to another team. It happens yearly though...

Quote:Tell that to guys like James Harrison.

He spent two years, I believe, in and out of the Steelers practice squad.
And Many NFL players have spent time on practice squads before finding success in the league, including <a class="bbc_url" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jason_Peters' title="External link">Jason Peters</a>, <a class="bbc_url" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Amendola' title="External link">Danny Amendola</a>, <a class="bbc_url" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Danny_Woodhead' title="External link">Danny Woodhead</a> and <a class="bbc_url" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Arian_Foster' title="External link">Arian Foster</a>.

<p style="color:rgb(37,37,37);font-familyConfusedans-serif;">Each <a class="" href='https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NFL' title="NFL">NFL</a> team may keep up to ten members on its "practice squad" in addition to the 53-member main roster. They consist mostly of rookies who were cut in training camps and borderline NFL-caliber players. Both rookies and young veterans are eligible for the practice squad. However, a player cannot participate on the practice squad for more than three seasons; he is eligible for a third season only if the team has at least 53 players on its active/inactive list for the duration of that player's employment, or have no prior accrued seasons in the NFL (an accrued season is six or more games on the active roster); or if he has accrued a year of NFL experience on a club's 53-man active roster. If the player was on the active list for fewer than 9 games during their "only Accrued Season(s)", he maintains his eligibility for the practice squad. Games in which a player is listed as the third-string quarterback (a designation that has been abolished as of 2011) do not count as being on the active list.[2]

<p style="color:rgb(37,37,37);font-familyConfusedans-serif;">Practice squad players practice alongside regular roster players during the week, but they are not allowed to play in actual games. They can be paid considerably less than active squad players: The minimum salary from 2008 to 2010 was $5,200 per week (2008-2010)[2] for 17 weeks, or $88,400 per season, in comparison to the NFL minimum rookie salary of $420,000. In 2012 the minimum salary for a practice squad player was $5,700 per week, and the minimum rookie salary in 2012 was $390,000. Some practice squad players are paid considerably more, however. In 2006, the New England Patriots paid third-year player Billy Yates the full $425,000 he would have earned on the active roster.[3]

<p style="color:rgb(37,37,37);font-familyConfusedans-serif;">Practice squad players are free agents; they can be signed to any team's 53-man roster at any time during the season. In other words, NFL teams are free to "poach" other teams' practice squads without compensating the teams. Additionally, the NFL has a program through which foreign players may be assigned to teams' practice squads, called the International Practice Squad Program.[

I'm sure the amount of guys that the PS has benefited is pretty high. Obviously the blue chippers out of college do not generally see the PS but I would guess that there are more guys than even we know that have spent some time on a PS somewhere who have contributed to winning teams in the league.

In other words, IMO the PS is as important as everything else.
Tweet from Big Cat Country (@BigCatCountry) - #Jaguars sign CB Peyton Thompson to practice squad. First addition. (via @PSchrags) http://www.bigcatcountry.com/2015/9/6/92...tice-squad http://twitter.com/BigCatCountry/status/...65/photo/1
