Gus said we finally built the team he said could win the AFC South but I feel like we still lack that go-to #1 receiver. Is there anyone you think Caldwell would go all out on to trade for? Julio Jones style?

If so it would happen in the draft.
I strongly doubt it. Bradley might be in a make-or-break year, but Caldwell certainly is not based upon the talent he's found for us. If both coach and GM felt like they had to win or go home, you might see the Jaguars try to make an aggressive trade, but Caldwell knows that the early-round pick he'd have to give up for a receiver right now is one less pick available to him next year.

Would you trade our first round pick for Brandin Cooks?

No. But only because I don't consider him a number 1 WR. We already have that guy in Lee, albeit his injury history.

True. Yeah, it kinda seems like Dave feels like Julius is our #1. Hopefully he's not out long.

dude... A Rob is a #1
Side note:

With the release of Phil Taylor, the Browns have no one left from the Julio Jones deal on the team.

No way.

Honestly..... not until he proves it. We may be saying he is next off-season but I don't think we can call him a LEGIT PRO BOWL RECEIVER just yet.

BTW, I think the whole #1 thing is kinda broad. Technically every team has a #1 receiver. That would be the best WR on their respective roster.

What we should want is a perennial pro bowl WR.
They could have, and arguably should have, simply selected Cooper and they would have their #1 for a long, long time.

Shows you where their priority is in finding their #1.

LEO much more important right now.

So don't expect a trade for a player.  What team that wants to succeed lets go of a stud #1 WR?  Unless there's baggage or a bad contract, no one is letting go a young #1 on the rise.

As some have said, we'll draft one in the future (and history shows it probably won't be a first rounder, either.)

I dont believe we trade for any WR. We might trade up in the draft next year for someone but even then I doubt it.

The use of #1 receiver in this thread is quite wrong.

What OP means and the actual definition of the "#1 receiver" is actually a position designation (9 times out 10, A teams best receiver) of the "Z receiver" whom lines up off the line a couple yards to keep the Tight end as an "eligible" receiver. They go downfield and have the speed to outrun corners and/or sometimes flanks across the middle of the field depending on the play.

WE do NOT have a true "Z" receiver. Robinson is an X receiver who does more cuts/flanking than outright outside the hash mark plays. This is generally called the "#2 spot" with Slot receiver being the "#3 spot". Lee is our closest guy to being a "Z receiver". Hurns is basically another X, Greene is a slot, Walters I believe is also an X (could be wrong there, havent seen enough of him) Edit: This and every offense does still line up receivers at the "Z position" despite not having a true Z receiver so also keep that mind but it doesnt play to their strengths

So now thats established, Very few if any teams will ever trade their "Z receiver" unless there is something wrong with him. AJ green, Calvin Johnson, Dez Bryant, Antonio Brown, Julio Jones, Damaryous Thomas, Odell Beckham, Mike evans, etc. are all Z receivers and will likely never make it to Free Agency in their prime.

he hasnt done any more than Hurns. So in that case we have 2 number ones

i would, i think he leads the league in receiving this year and there is no WR in college better than him IMO
For some reason, I thought that Jimmy Smith played X.

Are you kidding me? If not the answer is no.I remember in the 1990,s we were trying to get a 3rd receiver when we already had the best 2 in the league. We have 4 now....chill

That browns draft got graded as an A by nfl.com

Z all the way. He wasnt our last true "Z-receiver" but he was our last effective/good Z receiver. Sims-Walker was a Z as was Tiquan Underwood, Torry Holt, Troy Williamson. All had issues that kept them from being effective. (Holt and age)
Hurns (and Lee, if he can get on the field) will play #1 until we find a permanent #1.
