I keep hearing talk about why teams should avoid going QB in round one, but who might be there in round two. With a 2nd round QB, you have a situation like the Raiders last year where it's no big deal that he's backing up. That stigma of him being a potential franchise guy is gone, and at the same time the Jaguars seriously need some insurance for Blake's arm. Now I still like Brandon Allen, but I want as much competition at qb on this roster as possible with expectations of keeping the three best, and I want to know the backup can start if Blake can't go.
So, would we be looking at early in round two as qb options?
Also, I know many of you have guys in round two that you really want, so also tell me what players would have to not be there for you to be ok with going qb in round two.
Only if Mahomes is there...which is not likely.
They are all trash outside of the top 4...and they'll all be gone by the time the first round ends.

Why would it not be likely? This is a weak QB class so he should easily be available at #35.

Hes the best developmental QB in a draft where theres multiple teams that are going to be forced to start prepping for the future. Carson Palmer is probably done after this year, Ben already talked about retirement, Houston is going to need somebody to step up after either Brock or Romo are done, The chiefs have peaked with alex smith, Drew Brees is getting close to done, and Eli is getting up there as well. Theres a really good shot hes gone before the second.

Ben Roethlisberger's retirement comments were overblown and debunked. The Texans need a guy who can compete with Brock Osweiler now, not a developmental QB.

I don't see any special QBs in the entire draft. Top 4 will be heavily overdrafted due to that.
Take Jerod Evans later and give him some development.

Watson and Mahomes are special IMO. Kizer and Trubisky are solid starter material too.
Evans is probably the only other guy worth a shot after that though you're right.

What does that even mean? Even if his retirement comments were just a motivator to the rest of the team even mentioning retirement is significant, on top of his age and continual injuries it's definitely not overblown.
And why do the Texans need a QB right now? What is the rush? On top of that, If they get Romo then Tony becomes the current qb and Mahomes becomes the future.
I don't want any QB in this draft. I don't like any of them.

Anonymous scouts and executives told Lance Zierlein Mitch Trubisky can make all the throws, but has leadership issues. Everyone he interviewed wants to know why he could not win the starting job his first two years at UNC.
I think there is a chance Davis Webb makes it out of the first round and he would be interesting.
But I don't think we will go after a QB that early.
Quote:Gunner kiel
Massively underperformed his entire college career and was oft injured. He will either go very late or undrafted.
He has an NFL arm but I don't think he has what it takes mentally.
Patrick Mahomes in RD2 would be ideal. But as KY already pointed out he'll more than likely go sooner rather than later. I would be comfortable with David Webb in RD3 or RD4 if he falls.
This QB class is interesting though. We have a lot of QB needy teams at the moment and there's a good chance we see a run on QB's like we did in 2011's first round. Where a lot of players got over drafted by a good round or two.
I have a feeling Tom Coughlin and Dave is gonna shock everybody and take Watson

That is just not going to happen.

I'd love to see Watson fall to round two and get selected by the Jaguars. Kizer also looks like a really good one who might make it that far. These guys would make for great insurance for Bortles arm as they develop behind him.

No chance of that happening. Somebody is going to reach for him in the first and we pick after the 49ers.

Stranger things have happened. Sometimes scouts can get it wrong. Looking back at the 2011 QB class it was obvious Newton deserved to be the No. 1 overall pick. But had you told most people at that time that Andy Dalton and Colin Kaepernick would be selected in the 2nd round and go onto have success after Locker, Gabbert & Ponder were all drafted ahead of them nobody would have believed you.
This draft does have that same vibe to it. Teams will end up over drafting Trubisky, Watson & Kizer on day one and then it'll be guys like Davis Webb & Patrick Mahomes that slip into RD2 that probably go onto have the most success down the road. I can't stress it enough. I think this is truly a weak QB class and there's going to be a lot of buyer's remorse in short time.
