Well seeing as we have had 3 different Prime Minister's in 3 years I would say they have to worry about how they are polling.
Also as pointed out many times no American government is scared by your guns, they have you rather out gunned if you go rogue.
Not to mention the Forces is made up of every day citizens. Would they come and shoot you on request from the government? I doubt Jagibelieve would come and shoot you just because he was told to.

So they aren't scared of us because they have us outgunned by an armed force made up of people who wouldn't shoot us.

Oh, I'm extremely bothered by it, but it falls into the "plain sight" doctrine. The best argument I could see against it would be the possibility of false arrest or illegal detainment, but that'd be very quickly solved by the police officer saying, "You were going 66 in a 65, and I stopped you for your speed," which is more than enough for them to demand ID and verify whether the person driving is actually their target. The other argument would be that scanning a license plate and running it against a database is the equivalent of a suspicionless stop, but I believe courts have upheld "stop and frisk" in the past.
In short, yeah, it's scary, and so are facial recognition cameras on every street corner, but it doesn't appear that courts are in any way interested in taking them away from law enforcement.

I understand that and I'll even say I think these psycho-pharmasuticals people are on have something to do with it as well. But the Charlestown shooting is a example of just an evil person committing an evil act. I think we try and rationalize evil as sick as if it's something that can be cured.

It's very common technology for parking enforcement. They use it to identify vehicles that have delinquent tickets and boot them.

The toll roads down in Miami all use license plate readers too. It is how they bill you now rather than going through a booth and paying for a ticket. It is extremely convenient, but also kind of telling.

There's a show about the tow enforcement in Philly that use them. Pretty interesting they can do that, but for a moving car that's pretty crazy technology.

This too, I almost forgot that that's what they use here in Denver if you don't have a transponder tag.
This thread is turning into something that could be a very good topic to discuss in it's own thread. I do know that some people support the NSA and some are against it. The same with The Patriot Act.
