Quote:I was listening to the afternoon sports show from Houston. The hosts did not seem optimistic about Hoyer.

Because by mid season he'll be on the bench and Mallet will stink it up even more. If BOB was smart (and I hope he isn't) he would find a way to work out a trade for Mettenburger. I know you're not supposed to trade with division rivals but desperate times call for desperate measures. Another 7-9 or 8-8 record and you'll end up missing out on a top rated QB anyway.

This is great. I'd love for them to keep going 8-8 and mediocre forever. They'll never get a good QB without trading and we'll only get better with Bortles.
Quote:We shouldn't laugh at other team's QB situations.

Browns, tinhorns, Philly, jests....

McCown, Manziel

Hoyer, Mallet,

2 failed first rounders and another who has 2 bum knees

another failure (with a broken jaw) and a jouneyman turnover machine (with a wicked awesome beard)...

Geez.... how do those teams make it through?
To heck with the other teams-especially the Texans!

You don't think their fans laughed at our QB situations?

Even the Giants fans continued to look down at us and mock us.  Never mind that we beat them last year.

My only misgiving about this stance is that while we are encouraged about Bortles at this point, he is not established as a Pro Bowl QB yet.

I find it funny how other fans still laugh at us after losing, it makes no sense. Its been far too long since we've been taken seriously, and I can't wait til the Jags become top tier again. There's also one thing that I've been thinking about. If we do become an elite team, how long will it last? What is the "lifespan" for a team to stay dominant? Seems like the 49ers only got a few years before falling right back down, but the Patriots have been going strong for a decade. I just hope we'll never have to deal with another re-build or years of sucking.

If Foster is out for an extended period of time, they will be lucky to win 8 games.
Wasn't he quarterbacking the Browns when we basically shut down their offense ?

That is largely inevitable.

The best of franchises tend to have periods of losing and rebuilding.

Prior to Parcells, the Patriots were horrible.  Once Brady and Belichick retire, the Patriots will stink again.

Before they drafted Manning, the Colts were putrid.

The 49ers stunk for a long time between Garcia and Harbaugh.

I think our team, with a couple of really good drafts, which included what looks like a hit with QB Blake Bortles, is finally on the upswing out of rebuilding.

Their defense will win whatever games they pull out for them.

I am not overly concerned with the Texans offense, though I am not sure our defense, as currently constructed, can be overly effective against them.  Were Fowler and Marks healthy, I'd have little doubt about our defense's ability to control the game against the Texans.

He was by far the worst QB we played last year. I think he is a downgrade from Fitzpatrick.

Passing on Bortles, Bridgewater and possibly Carr will haunt this franchise.

Good.

They deserve it!

Patriots have Brady.  Niners don't.  That's the difference.

9ers rode a gimmicky QB and strong D....

then blew it all up because the coach was a deek and a bunch of players retired due to age and injury.

Pats had a real QB and a coach that isn't going anywhere.
I honestly think hoyer has decent talent to go with great intangibles and a good football IQ. He didn't get a fair shake with the browns. He isn't great but he won't lose you any games.

He's a mediocre at best QB. He's a perfect match for the 8-8 Texans.

Quarterback Ryan Mallett wasn’t at the Texans’ practice Thursday.

“That’s between Ryan and I,” coach Bill O’Brien said.

Mallett lost the starting job to Brian Hoyer this week. Mallett said the day after that he was disappointed and disagreed with the decision but would continue to work hard and be ready to play. He was at practice on Wednesday but not Thursday.

“That’s a personal issue with him,” O’Brien said.
Gee, Mallett throwing a temper tantrum.

This is my shocked face.

(obligatory joke involving cocaine)

Was Mallett ever even the starter anyway?

Sounds like he overslept. Yep that's the guy I want starting at QB.

"Overslept."

Nope, totally didn't stay home from work because he was unhappy about being benched. He "overslept," and he just happened to do shortly after being told that he wouldn't start.
