Quote:Wiz to me just looks like a marginal center.  His experience and knowledge of the offense may give him an early edge.  However, I like Bo's continued upside and size.  As a developing team looking more towards what is best for the future, I would give it to Bowanko.

This. I couldn't agree more.
They are very close. I don't think we can go wrong with the veteran of the system in Wiz. I think Bo's play is making this decision a lot tougher than the coaches anticipated.

Especially with Cann looming for his time you think Wiz would provide the veteran presence for a young line. Without seeing game 2 yet I think Bo earns the job. I'll update later.
If Cann is going to overtake Beadles the presence of a veteran at center makes sense.  Especially if the gap between Wiz and Bowanko isn't too steep.

Bowanko ultimately takes it though, maybe not by week 1, but at some point in the year.

They both played well.

If the Jags are really high on Shatley ... well we can't keep three centers. Maybe some team needs a center and we can trade Wiz. Unlikely, but even a conditional 7th would be better than nothing.

We still need depth at tackle. Young and Pasztor both played poorly, and
Wells is injured (and may not be good enough even if healthy).
In order to start, I think Wiz needs to outplay Bo. Otherwise, you go with the youth. Wiz isn't going to get much better. At 26-27, he is what he is. Bo has upside.

The competition is very close. I'd have them compete for the next 2 weeks and the better player gets the job.
Bowanko, he's young, strong, and nasty.

Wiz and Shatley also play Guard.

They are both better centers than they are guards, and we also have Cann and Pasztor for depth at guard.

I suppose the Jags could call Shatley a backup guard, but someone on the interior OL still needs to go. I haven't seen enough from Cann to think that the Jags will cut Beadles. Pasztor is probably the worst guard among the bunch, but he also is our best depth at tackle.

Point being, yes you can keep 3 centers if 2 of them have the ability to play all 3 interior positions. And who said they are better at Center than Guard?

C/G = Beadles, Cann, Bowanko, Wiz, Shatley, Linder, Pasztor. That's seven guys who can play either center or guard. Toss in the two OT starters and we're already up to nine offensive linemen, with only one backup tackle in Pasztor. I haven't seen any of the other interior linemen ever play tackle.

Somebody in the interior OL has to go. Either that or the Jags short another position. "Sorry Mr. Pierce, we've decided to keep three centers."

Gus has said he wants to give the starters time to gel. I agree that naming a starter soon will be better.

You keep replying that basically they will have to cut some guys. Yes, I know that.

I didn't say it was likely they keep all 3, just not an impossibility. I'm not sure why that's so hard for you to acknowledge.
Bo would seem to be pulling away.  As many have said, 3rd game will likely cement the opening day starter.

If you listen to Lags and Boselli after the game, they mentioned where Bortles was saying it would be nice to only have to communicate to one guy at Center instead of always having to repeat himself by communicating the same thing to two players. Boselli then went on to say how much it helps in terms of OL communication and consistency to have one guy starting. The OL needs to come together and jell, and you don't get that with a constant rotation at Center. It's time for Gus to make a decision.

I get the feeling Pasztor is probably on his way out. He's been outplayed by the other guards and was having a rough outing last night deep in the 4th against third and fourth stringers.

One name I haven't heard called much is Brennan Williams. Perhaps that's a good thing and could be a viable candidate at tackle.
@ryanohalloran: Gus on centers splitting time Detroit with 1s. "That could still happen." #Jaguars

Agreed on Pazsztor falling out of favor.
Quote:I'm rooting for Bowanko if only because that will show what a great job Caldwell did with that 6th rounder he got for Gabbert!
The best thing Caldwell did with that 6th rounder he got for Gabbert was dupe San Francisco out of it. That would be true whether Bowanko becomes a HOFer or if he had never played a down in the NFL Wink
What a terrible place for the JAGS to be.

Two very good candidates for Center and a decision to be made.

Why can't this thread have a "Twisted Panty Fest" like the Joeckel thread.

Nah
