Quote:Good. I honestly never understood anybodys logic in that signing him for next season would be beneficial for anybody.

Agree here. He's almost 37 and has played in 5 games since the end of 2014.

If there's a hall of fame for good but not great players, Romo certainly qualifies.  Maybe if there's a hall for the brittle, he'd have a shot.  But, the HOF for the NFL?  Not a chance.

Even without that. He's never been the type of QB that elevates his team to another level. Like he puts up good stats but only really goes as far as his team will take him.
I maybe in the minority here, but this has to be the best the best case scenario for the Jags.  I believe Houston was banking on getting Romo (hence them dumping the Brocketship) and now they will be depending on Tom Savage Garden to lead them.

Interested to see what the tinhorns do now. They could very well end up trading up or sitting tight at the bottom of RD1 to get a QB.

Yeah sorry but Romo was fantastic. He's top 5-10 in any rate category you look at...ANY/A, YPA, comp %, TD:INT, QB rating doesn't matter what you like he's among the all time best at it. He is also 21st and I think 29th in total yards and TDs so he stacks up ok for the neanderthal experts out there too. If you don't think he's hall of fame worthy then you aren't looking hard enough.

The lack of playoff success is his only knock but he played very well in the playoffs so I'm even knocking him for that.

Imo, Romo retired years ago.. He's just gonna finally make it official
In before the merge.

Romo was a very good quarterback, even great at times. But in no way do his numbers say "Hall of Fame" to me when there are guys with numbers like Brady/Brees/Rodgers in the league.

The bar was set extremely high by the early 2000s QBs. If Romo was getting out around the time those guys were getting in, I'd probably very much consider him. even with the games he's missed

You can say the same exact thing about Philip Rivers.

And both are in a clear third tier of quarterbacks of their era.

That's like saying Boselli doesn't deserve it because Jones/Pace/Roaf. Maybe there were just that many hall of fame caliber players. Rodgers completely annihilates the field, but after him Romo's rates are on par with anyone's including Brady/Brees/Peyton.

And in a few years I will. Rivers is a shade below Romo rate wise which is what matters most to me, but he'll be significantly ahead in the overall numbers.

Who said that!? Completely assinine. Romo was talented, a good QB. If he stayed A LOT more healthy then he would be a borderline hall of famer.

His actual career though, not even close to HOF worthy.
Romo was a very good QB. Played in a really tough division with the Andy Reid Eagles and the Tom Coughlin Giants for most of his career and did pretty good. His average defense was 20th or so.

He had 3 years or so where he was a top 5 QB and was mostly top 10 for his career but I don't think he's a hall of fame QB.
How about I phrase it like this, you can't at the same time say Romo ain't a hall of famer and make a real case that Boselli is.

That's fine.  This is a safe space.

Apples and oranges.

Boselli had multiple years where he was the best player at his position and had to retire early due to injury.

Boselli is more similar to someone like Gale Sayers or Kenny Easley, who got in this year.

Romo was never close to being considered the best QB in the league.

Boselli made more pro bowls and was an all pro more times than Romo in a career that was several seasons shorter.

And Boselli was arguably the best LT  while playing depending on who you ask. At no point was Romo that guy as a QB, if he was he would have won a MVP award.

In addition Boselli was all pro competing against guys like Roaf, Ogden, and Pace.
