He has increased the quality of this o-line. There was time for plays to develop and receivers to get open. Linder and Parnell were stonewalling guys like it was nothing. Bowanko seems to have gotten even stronger and held down the center spot with relative ease, Beadles was holding it down well and giving Blake time. Joeckel still getting beat like a drum but otherwise leaps and bounds from last year.
I am excited about the possibility, and think we will be improved with better guys and a better scheme.
But we do not need to be giving credit after the first preaseason game. They did not scheme for us at all. Things will be much more challenging once the bullets really start flying.
It's a good starting point, and a reason for optimism, nothing more.
Didn't get to watch, but read that Parnell and Linder are monsters and Luke was underwhelming...but what about Beadles and Bowanko? How did they look? Thanks..
If joekcel doesnt improve we can snag okung in FA next year
Bowanko played pretty well, but I did see him get handled somewhat by a more physical NT
The run looked pretty good, but Joke needs to get better, FAST.

I thought Parnell played pretty well, but he did have a false start. Brandon Linder is Brandon Linder and that's good. Joeckel had one really bad play that ended with a sack/forced fumble on Blake, but aside from that played solid. Overall, I thought the protection for Bortles was good aside from the one Joeckel whiff. I thought Denard, Toby, and Bernard all played great, but the line was also opening up holes for them pretty consistently. It's an extremely small sample size, but the line looked better than last season.
Rewatched Joeckel and Beadles in the 1st Quarter. Overall, Joeckel is a weakness as we all know and no doubt a bottom of the NFL LT and maybe not even starter quality. I notied that as the quarter progressed, Olsen started beefing up the left side of the line with TEs or bringing a WR in close. I'm sure he's going to have to do this all year to help out Joeckel.
Beadles was better overall than my first impression when I watched the game earlier. Beadles isn't great by any means but he certainly wasn't bad. He held his own for the most part. Most of his play was sufficient. He didn't overpower anyone but he wasn't a glaring weakness either.
Teams are going to key in on Joeckel and we are going to have to committ a TE or RB more than likely on every play to help him unless the play is designed to go away from the rush on the left side.
Joeckel results of plays from 1st Quarter
1- Whiff
2- No one to block
3- He was pushed back but got help from LG (quick pass)
4- No real rush (draw up the middle)
5- Reached and dove at rusher, kept him out of the play (run left)
6- Chipped at DE (run right)
7- Held block OK at line (run right)
8- Held his own
9- Whiff, strip/fumble/sack
10- No one rushed against him
11- Good combo run block
12- Good hustle on WR screen but whiffed on block
13- Got to LB and held block OK
14- Held own (PA pass)
15- Held block well (run up middle)
16- Beat on the rush but it didn't affect the play
I did the same review with Beadles but his were all average or slightly above average.
I think it would be interesting to get a stopwatch on the first half and see how much time Bortles was getting to pick out a throw. Seemed to me he was getting a lot more time than last season (although I accept the opposition wasn't as tough as it could have been)
The blocking schemes were more effective and they were being executed with more precision compared to last season. The screen plays really jumped out as markedly better than what we have seen in recent years. I'm inclined to believe that Marrone is doing his job quite well thus far if these things are indeed indications.
I agree, a definitive step up in the OC position. Overall our offense looks pretty good...

I saw at least 3 plays where Luke got beat. Granted he has to correct this but this is not Gus/Dave issue. Everyone had him and Fisher rated very high. The draft is what it is a high stakes crap shoot.
I thought Joeckel was pretty good out in space on the screen plays. In pass pro he was underwhelming but hopefully with a real OC we can gameplan around that and shift a RB to block over there. Still want to see Yeldon get some playing time. I think he can be awesome if the line plays well.
Denard looked even quicker behind this line
There's no credit to give...it's the first week of the preseason.
I give credit for Parnell. He is a solid NFL starter, great pickup.
So far so good on Olsen. I liked what I have seen so far.
The line is better. The center competition is still wait and see, as is the LG. I am pretty impressed with what Cann has shown so far, but think Beadles should stay starting for the simple fact that Joeckel has been sketchy and having an experienced player next to him is probably best for now.
I was impressed at what the coach was able to do in such a short amount of time. They still have to address Luke Joekel though.
