For those of you wondering where Simmons was going to land, I just read that he's signed a deal with HBO. Apparently he starts in 2016.

It seems that he'll also be able to produce written work at another site, not yet named.

I love Simmons' written work. On television he's a work in progress, although he'll have more freedom on HBO than he did on ESPN.

Looking forward to see what he produces.

I think his on-camera work is okay. He's not my favorite. He comes across as a bit smarmy.

I think his strength seemed to be hiring the right people for his Grantland site.

Every time I "experience" Simmons, whether through the written word or on camera, the term that pops into my head is 'unqualified.' Not that he doesn't write well, but it just seems that he can only put pop culture references in everything. I stopped reading his stuff a while back and really have no regrets about the absence.

Not a big fan of his, but then again I'm not a Boston Celtic fan.

The Celts/Pats/Sox fan is about as annoying as it gets

And I think that this is the root of why I don't like him. I get that even the most jaded of sportswriters will have affection for some players or teams, but he is simply over the top with his. It's annoying and almost like he is making an effort to not be professional about his, well, profession.

If he were a Jaguars fan ...

He's not a "sportswriter" per se, he's a fan who writes from a fan's perspective, so of course he's going to often cite "his" teams. In my opinion he doesn't really over do it.

Hey, he gets me reading about the NBA and I know very little regarding the NBA and only watch during the playoffs, so he must have some talent.

His mailbag columns are pure genius.
