According to Big Cat Country tweet. However, he has improved and certainly has new weapons but did not expect dead zone ranking jump. Maybe after start of training camp and preseason games

That's honestly more love than I expected from them considering his "qbr" last year and how they tote that stat like its the statistical equivalent of Jesus.


I think 23 is fair for now until he proves the growth on thefield. Which I'm sure he will.

That's ESPN trying to invent a meaningless statistic and get it into the NFL vernacular.

 

Thankfully no other media outlet uses that junk.

I understand the premise of the QBR but in the grand scheme of things why do we need a stat of other stats.

I rank ESPN last. That place, and everyone not named Mark Brunell in it, is a cesspool.

Just another analytical besides W/L, Att/Comp, Int/ Sacks etc to rate a QB just formula with combo of analytics.

The same way they are today by most people - that Wins determines the best pitcher and BA and RBI mean a lot. Fortunately people who think about the games have come up with much more insight.

 

QBR makes a lot more sense than the current QB rating - which most people don't understand and are totally ignorant of.

We can go over excuses for his stats last season but based on overall performance he might even be ranked a bit lower if we were truly honest about it.

Now going over all the excuses;


He was told he wasn't going to play his rookie year - Ask Blaine Gabbert if that is ever true in Jacksonville as a 1st round rookie in the NFL post 2000 era

He had to play on a very young team with almost all rookie receivers many of which battled injuries all year long - none of them were drafted in the 1st round

He had the worst Offensive Line in the NFL for most of the season until a few key players made improvements like RG Linder. - Start of the season was probably the worst Oline in Jaguars history

He claimed his arm was tired during the season - stamina problems or bad coaching who knows but is a concern still going fwd.

He had no running support - It wasnt until the Browns game that Robinson started to flash with 100 + run games, slowby was a huge disappointment.  Oline surely had some of what to do with it.

He was hit so often he had to play thru injuries - He had to be one of the most sacked / hit QBs last season if not the most. Gus talks about Henne being tough but Bortles showed he was too.

He had to run and read too many times due to OC - or did the OC try anything to get production out of him we'll find out this year.

He broke up with his hot gf - that hot gf leaving you would crush you too...
