I think he could have put up Drew Brees type numbers in todays game.

If we had the 99 Jags offense with the 2015 rules, We'd probably be the best offense in the league
With that offensive line, all those offensive threats around him and a pretty good HC in TC, quite possibly or at least right under the elite status.
Unfortunately, we will never know.

Russell Wilson reminds me of pre-injury Mark Brunell.

I don't think Brunell was ever an elite QB. He was a guy who as in that 2nd tier of very good QBs, but elite? Nope. So, no, I don't think he would be elite in today's NFL even with all the weapons.
Elite? Probably not and he would settle into that Tony Romo / Philip Rivers tier 2 QBs level.
I do believe the franchise record for TDs would have been broken though and he would likely have put up 4K.

He put up 4,000 yards passing already. He also was the Pro Bowl MVP.
With todays rules and the basketball on grass game of today, I think he could have added another 1k to his yards and atleast 10 more TDs.
Lets not forget he played with one of the best RBs of all time in Fred Taylor. So we ran the ball alot more then.

Wow. I wish I was old enough to witness the Mark Brunell era. I grew up watching the Jags we know today, it's kind of miserable. The only success I can remember is when I was 11 or 12 years old and we beat the Steelers in the playoffs with a FG from Scobee. Then the next week we got are butts kicked by the Tom Brady and his Patriots lol. I wish I witnessed the game against the Broncos every older Jags fan dwells on.
OT- I don't really know much about Brunell, but from what I heard is that he was kind of overrated.

He also had two borderline Hall of Famers at wide receiver and what should be a Hall of Fame running back.
Not to mention a Hall of Fame caliber left tackle and an All Pro right tackle.
It's actually a wonder he didn't put up better numbers with the insane talent around him.
Even with all the talent of the 1999 team, he wouldn't be elite in today's standards. He'd put up a Romo like season from last year at best. Nothing like we've seen from Brees, Brady, Manning, or Rodgers in years past.

I believe he would have been elite with that team. It's always the age old question...does the receiver make the QB or does the QB make the receiver. I tend to agree with both sides in that it's a little bit of both. That being said the thought that it was the team that made him better is unjust. Brunell was the best QB our franchise ever had and was one game from leading us to a super bowl. He was a top 3 QB in the league when passing the ball was much more difficult. In this era of football Brunell would have lead this team to many playoffs and have been in that elite status.

When was he a top 3 quarterback? In the Jaguars run of 96-99, Favre and Young were clearly better.
Hell, Vinny Testaverde had multiple seasons in that stretch with more TD passes than Brunell ever had.
I like Brunell. He was the first jersey I owned. He brought the fans alot of great memories. But being the first face of this franchise, and the mostly terrible quarterbacks that have followed him, have inflated his legacy.
