A huge rebuilding job is ahead for Robert Saleh.

Good for him, a nice step up....now he has to somehow figure out the 49ers defense.

His first task is to help Kyle Shanahan create the 49ers defense. San Francisco is the NFL's biggest rebuilding job from top to bottom.

The options with pick # 2 in the upcoming draft could potentially be a huge part of a rebuilding process.

A case can be made that Cleveland is an even bigger rebuilding job,  though it's close either way.

And none of them are a QB. Also watch what they do with their second round pick (#34?) regardless of what they do with #2.

The 49ers had to hire a new GM and HC. Cleveland did that last year.

Time will tell how the teams at the top of the draft will evaluate the QBs in the draft.  We have seen that many times a team is desperate for a QB,  they will reach for one in a draft or overpay to get a veteran QB.

There's no question that the pick # 34 draft resource is critical for a 49ers team with a multitude of needs.

True  But Cleveland is coming off a 1 win season.

Mike Mayock said he would be "scared to death" of picking a QB in the top 10. All draft analysts seem to agree no QB should go that high. The 49ers could reach for need, but they know something about their neighbors in Oakland.

From what I have seen from past drafts,  the closer to the beginning of the draft,  the greater the temptation for a team in need of a QB to draft a QB high or trade up for one..Desperate times often lead to desperate measures.

Like the Jaguars trading up for Blaine Gabbert instead of hoping he would drop to #16?

All analysts but one once agreed that the Earth was the center of the universe.  That's an extreme example, but we see it every year in the lead up to the draft that analysts' big boards rarely reflect reality when the actual draft occurs.  Teams' GMs and scouts don't rely on TV talking heads to help construct their own big boards.  Quite frankly, one or more QBs going in the top 10 wouldn't be all that surprising to me.  If a team drafting high likes a particular QB, they can't really bet on them being there for them in round 2 which means they'd either have to trade down and hope to get their guy or trade up into the bottom of the 1st round and hope he's still there.  Either approach still relies on hope and luck.  If they like him enough, they should just take him when they have the chance to.

Cleveland has more leeway since they have a 2nd first round pick.  Though if they like a guy, they'd have to expect the 9ers or another QB needy team to take him if they pass at 1 and try to wait to get him later in the round.  If Cleveland passes and the 9ers don't take a QB at 2 either, that should be all anyone needs to know about the QBs in this draft.  New GM, New Head Coach and they pass on a new QB at 2?  It's possible, but I wouldn't bet on that happening especially if Cleveland doesn't go QB at 1 overall.

Also, how long is Hue Jackson going to wait to get his QB in Cleveland?  He's got to be thinking he needs to get his guy sooner rather than later.  Maybe they believe in RG3, but again, I wouldn't bet on that.

Don't count the Bears out. Brian Hoyer is a pending UFA.

My Raiders reference was Oakland's 2014 draft. They hit two home runs with the BAP at #4 and a QB at #36.
