  Tommy Campbell

Has anyone seen enough of Campbell to get a read on him? I noticed he's now the primary backup to Gratz, and had a few tackles in the last game. Going forward to next year is he making the 53?

What a game, what a win. I hope that the Jags can play a team like this in the AFC championship game someday.

  Landon Collins vs Gerod Holliman
Posted by: flgatorsandjags - 12-20-2014, 11:38 PM - Replies (30)

If Dave wanted one of these guys who would you rather get for the future at FS.  If Dave wanted Collins I think Dave would take him with the 5th or 6th pick to not risk losing him.  If he was high on Holliman he will probably have to trade up with our 2nd round pick back into the 1st.  I like both and think both will be good FS.  I was high on Jimmie Ward last year but other than that I haven't really been to high on any of the FS prospects to come out the last few years.  Wasn't that high on Clinton Dix  last year, wasnt too high on Vaccaro or Reid a couple years ago.  Maybe just me but Collins and Holliman are 2 of the best FS prospect to come out in the last few years IMO.  A lot of people don't think Collins can play FS but I disagree. His 40 time will be huge at the combine and Holliman as well.  Would you rather take Collins (maybe trade back a few spots depending on where we draft) in the 1st or trade up back into the 1st with our 2nd for Holliman?

  Looking to Draft Day
Posted by: ChesterChops - 12-20-2014, 11:12 PM - Replies (41)

Now that the season is coming to an end, and the future is looking better, who are the serious contenders for our first round draft pick? It may seem too early to talk about this, but what is our main priority?

Our defense needs some restructuring but things are improving, especially in the trenches. I think this draft has a good selection of DE we could take advantage of, but a CB like Oregon's Ifo Ekpre-Olomu may be hard to pass up, if we're thinking D.

OR is surrounding Bortles with talent more important? If he is our franchise guy, which he is and should be at this point in time, then it would seem wise to give him tools. A running game must be established to give #5 a chance to open it up down field, but do we start looking for a needed RB or keep building a strong foundation to protect Bortles, or whomever he hands the ball to, by picking a franchise OL?

I just don't think this year's selection of RB is good enough to make a long term team impact but I could be mistaken. In my opinion, the best move we can make at this point is to give our QB a bouncer to learn this offense with.

Outland Trophy winner BRANDON SCHERFF is one of the most well coached, energetic, and strongest linemen to enter the draft in a few years (if not THE strongest…did you see the video earlier this year of him cleaning 3X450lbs?... …insane). This is not a surprise with his experience at Iowa under OL guru Kirk Ferentz and the best college strength and conditioning coach you could ask for in Chris Doyle. I could give a long list of successful Hawkeye linemen drafted in the last few decades, or even recent years, but you really only need to say two words: Marshall Yanda. Consider we had a corn-fed boy in Brad Meester lead our line through some dark times, and that Scherff’s last college game will be played in EverBank Field, and it seems like all signs point to draft this BEAST. Thoughts?

Fred Taylor and Jimmy Smith should be in the HOF.

I guess Fame is the big word because these players will get snupped because of the small market team they played for.  Both of these players have numbers in the top 10 all time. If these two were a long time member for the cowboys, 9ers, packers, etc they would be first ballot HOF.  I think it would take numbers of such an extreme measure I don't think it's possible for the Jags to have a HOF player.

Who you got on the chopping block following the season?

My List so Far

Cecil Shorts:  Let him walk.  Gene's stench is all over him.  He will occasionally make a big play and then miss 3 more.  Tired of him coming up short

M. Lewis:  His salary is asinine to his production.  Cut him and use the Money for 2 good players or even a great one.  Bye

Poz:  I like poz but his age, his salary, and he is coming off a major injury does not make sense to keep him.  If he would restructure his deal then I would like to see him stay but don't know if he is willing.

C. Henne:  It scares me if bortles ever had to miss time we have to rely on this guy.  Cut him and draft a backup

Ace Sanders:  After his suspension he has played more like colonel sanders.  Cut him

  Joeckel vs other newbie LTs
Posted by: haveaseat - 12-20-2014, 04:04 PM - Replies (69)

So we give Joeckel a hard time but is it really fair? Look at Jake Matthews, Matt Kalil, Greg Robinson, Eric Fisher and other newcomers at LT in the league. Is he really doing that poorly in comparison? Especially for a guy coming off an injury? Are we just impatient for him to develop quicker?
