JAKLA's First 2015 NFL Mock Draft
Posted by: jakla86 - 11-05-2014, 12:42 PM - Replies (43)

I know its early, but I felt like doing this.  Hope you all enjoy!

I believe the Jags will end up around 3-13 or 4-12 with the third overall pick once again, possibly even the second.    If we are picking top 3, I am very confident that we trade down to a team looking to grab a QB, but for the sake of this mock, I won't do the trades (though the first round pick reflects who I think we will take after we trade down).

1,3:   Landon Collins, S, Alabama - So many mock drafts have us taking a pass rusher, but getting a quality safety to compliment Cyp is so much more of a need IMO.   Alternative pick here - Ifo-Ekpre Olomu CB, Oregon.

2,3:  Benardrick McKinney, ILB, Miss St:  We need an athletic, fast ILB to help with TE coverage over the middle.  Love this kid.  Great athleticism, great speed for his size (6'4, 250).   A hard-hitting, physical specimen who would buy into GB's motivation.

3,3:  Nick O'Leary, TE, FSU:   Great hands and a good blocker, we need a TE that can not only block, but is a threat over the middle and in the Red Zone.  Would prefer Devon Funchess from Michigan here but doubt hes avail in the third.

4,3:  Arie Kouandjio, G, Alabama - he would have to fall a bit here, but this draft is deep in qaulity OL so its not out of the question.  Would love to add him to the O-Line.

5,3:  Bronson Kaufusi, DE/OLB, BYU - at 6'7, 265 this guy runs a 4.72 40.  Beast.  And he is somewhat raw, so with the right coaching, he could be an absolute steal.  Scouts are saying he has just barely scratched the surface of his potential.  Potential LEO if we get lucky.

6,3:  Cody Riggs, CB/S, Notre Dame - a bit undersized, but great in coverage and a ton of heart.  Rudy, Rudy!

7,3:  Shawn Carden, QB, East Carolina - very under-rated QB, has 2,574 yards with 18 touchdowns and five interceptions.  Henne will be gone soon, so I could see us drafting a backup QB here.

Thanks and hope you like it!

Looks like Greg Hardy has played his last snap as a Panther
Posted by: Apollo - 11-05-2014, 10:36 AM - Replies (6)

According to NFL Network, the Carolina Panthers are likely to let Greg Hardy walk in FA. His trial for domestic abuse isn't supposed to be settled until the offseason.

Do the Jags make a play here, with all the cap room we are projected to have?

Or is the domestic abuse enough to keep them away?

If he can get his off field issues fixed, it might be worth it. He's one of the better pass rushers in the sport. Its not often you get that level of talent at that position reaching FA. This is obviously a special case with extenuating circumstances.

Clemons will be another year older and Hardy added to Branch and Davis would make an already improved pass rush that much more dangerous (no pun intended) going forward.

It would also allow the Jags to target other area in the draft other than DE.

8 team playoff system. Why not?
Posted by: hailtoyourvictor - 11-05-2014, 09:58 AM - Replies (105)

I'm in favor of an 8 team playoff. Conference champ of the P5 schools get in. 3 At-Large bids. If you really wanted to keep some historical involvement (read: money), you could keep the major bowls involved.

Rose Bowl

Big Ten champ vs Pac 12 champ

Fiesta Bowl

Big 12 champ vs At-Large At-Large #3

Sugar Bowl

SEC champ vs At-Large #2

Orange Bowl

ACC Champ vs At-Large #3

That way, the four major money bowls still get their sites every year and they still have their same conference affiliations. You could also develop new pretty cool "rivalries" between the Bowls themselves. What I mean by that is, if the Sugar Bowl always plays the Orange Bowl champ in round 2, it will build the ACC / SEC rivalry because you know that only one of the conference champs can play for the NC.

Just my thoughts.

The 2014 Jags are already better than the 2013 Jags
Posted by: knarnn - 11-04-2014, 06:39 PM - Replies (14)

A nice piece by Alfie looking at the numbers. Here are a few excerpts:

Quote:First of all, the team is more competitive than they were last season through the first nine weeks. Last year the Jaguars had a 178 point differential through Week 9 (in only 8 games) while this season it's just 110, with an extra game factored in. They've given up 68 less points at this point, even though the start of the season was so awful.

Through the last six games the Jaguars have been in every game entering the fourth quarter
and if a few plays go differently, they could have two to three more wins. Part of that is because the defense is playing better than it was at this point last year and the offense is playing better than it was at this point last year.
Quote:The Jaguars offense is easily outpacing last years offense with half of the players starting/contributing as rookies. It took a few weeks to get things sorted out, which isn't uncommon when a team has a high turnover rate and when the team is exceedingly young, but over the past four to five weeks the Jaguars have settled in and now they just need to learn how to win. Last season at this point they'd scored single digits in half their games. This year they've scored single digits just once.

This years team has outpaced last years team in most categories:

Total offense per game 278.4 yards (2013), 319.6 (2014) difference: +41.2 yards

Total defense per game 388 yards (2013), 386 (2014) difference: +2

Points scored per game 12.78 (2013), 15.67 (2014) difference: +2.89

Points allowed per game 32.3 (2013), 27.9 (2014) difference: +4.4

Rushing yards per game 65 (2013), 101.1 (2014) difference: +36.1

Passing yards per game 213 (2013), 212 (2014) difference: -1

Turnovers forced 11 (2013), 10 (2014) difference: -1

The only areas in need of improvement is passing offense and winning the turnover battle. Both will begin to gain traction to the positive side as Bortles and our rookie WRs develop in this offense.

The next step of improvement will need to come in the Win/Loss column and I fully expect that to happen as this young team grows and the mistakes become fewer.

  we want Romo playing sunday!
Posted by: snowwolf776 - 11-04-2014, 05:57 PM - Replies (19)

I'm just stating a fact here.  The one game we won was vs a starting qb with hoyer for browns.  We lost to cousins, and whitehurts this year. Both of them are back ups.  I am just saying we might be better off vs a starter qb,because a back up has things to prove so they can get a job as a starter on another team.  also I believe we are winless at London. its either 0-1,or 0-2. Is this game in London? I can't rember.

I have a plan to help jags next year.
Posted by: snowwolf776 - 11-04-2014, 05:41 PM - Replies (5)

I hardly ever win in fansty football anyways ,but next year I am really really  going to take one for the jags. I have a plan. First let me say I already had aj green on my team, and  hes  been out hurt on the bench.  anyways when we played dolphins I picked up Wallace, and he didn't do well that week, and the previoues week he had over 13 points. I put green back in this week when he played us,and he didn't do as well, one td.  I am going to look at our schedule next year, and try to take a player from every team we play aganiest,I'll even have to take ugh a titian player.  I'm just saying the last 2 I started in one of my fansty leagues when they played jags haven't done as well. Smile Smile
