  Ranking the AFC South Receivers
Posted by: haveaseat - 06-18-2014, 05:43 PM - Replies (33)

I tried to be unbiased. What do you think? Agree? Disagree? I left out Blackmon based on his questionable return.

Quote:

10. Ace Sanders – Jags

Ace Sanders may be small but he’s shifty. To me, these receivers are just as dangerous as deadly as the big guys who can go up top and nab the ball from the sky. Ace is a guy who can line up anywhere and you never know where he’s gonna go or what he’s going to do. Hell, the guy threw a TD pass on a trick play. With Sanders showing so much having Blaine Gabbert and Chad Henne under center the upside of the former Gamecock is extremely intriguing to say the least.

9. Hakeem Nicks – Colts

I couldn’t keep him off my list because of one lackluster year in a situation where Eli’s offensive line just folded like a tent on him. If Hakeem can get back to where he was two years ago then he’s gonna be a dangerous weapon for the Colts. The big thing is gonna be if he can get his confidence back. It’s easier said than done and he looked completely lost at times last season.

8. Keshawn Martin – Texans

A consistent performer for the Texans. He’s that guy you kinda forget about and think the play is over and then Martin comes out of the shadows, catches the football and gets the first down while I scream countless swear words in frustration.

7. Dexter McCluster – Titans

I hate that this guy is in the AFC South now. He’s a pro bowler for a reason. He’s got quick feet and will be a a true threat as a return specialist for the Titans. McCluster is still young and there’s so much room for him to develop still. A good pick-up for them.

6. Justin Hunter – Titans

Where did he come from? 4 TD’s as a rookie is pretty impressive. They did their homework and got a hometown boy they knew would fit in their system like a glove. A ton of upside still. Got to give the Titans props there.

5. TY Hilton – Colts

Remember what I said about small and shifty guys like Ace? Here’s another one. TY Hilton became the primary go-to-guy for Andrew Luck after Reggie Wayne went down against the Broncos but even though teams knew who the ball was going to they couldn’t stop little Hilton from burning defenders all the way down the field.

4. DeAndre Hopkins – Texans

Hopkins had 2 TD’s as a rookie but what’s impressive is that he broke 800 yards. Let me repeat. Over 800 yards with Keenum and a dysfunctional Shaub. That’s scary. Hopkins might have the most upside out of any AFC South receiver. He is a big playmaker and they’re fortunate to have him.

3. Cecil Shorts III – Jags

Yes, the third best receiver in my mind is a 4th round pick from Mount Union college. Shorts has been a bright spot for the Jags to say the least. I see so many similarities to Victor Cruz when I watch Cecil. Shorts is going into a contract year so this is going to be crucial for him to stay healthy and be productive.

2. Reggie Wayne – Colts

Do I even need to list why? He’s Mr. Reliable and he’s been a true asset to the Colts. Look up the word “beast” in your dictionary. You might see his picture in there.

1. Andre Johnson – Texans

He may not be showing up at mini-camp but even still he’s the best receiver in the AFC South in my mind. He’s got the speed, smarts, athleticism, height and every possible box you can check off when looking for a true #1 receiver. The only question for him now is age and if he’s just getting ready to hang up the cleats soon. It looks like he wants a ring before it’s all said and done for him. and surely he knows he won’t be getting it with Fitzpatrick in the drivers seat.

Word is starting to spread on what we have building in Jacksonville. I'm glad I can witness it from the beginning.

Fitzpatrick to Start for the Texans; Yates Released

Nice! A starting QB that we were actually able to defeat last year we get to face likely twice! I think we would be wise to bring Yates in as a camp body as well to get the skinny on what the Texans are doing.

What Players that are on a prove it or lose it bubble?
Posted by: jaguarmvp - 06-16-2014, 02:40 PM - Replies (48)

What players do you see as this being their last year to prove their value or hit the road.  Some of these players may not even make the opening day roster

M. Lewis- Good blocking tight end that is paid way too much.  He has not been a solid or consistent target in the passing game

T. Alualu- This guy is like the invisible man when it's game day. He is little more than a body that "can hold the point of attack" Way overdrafted

J. Evans- Yes he is young but has looked flat out awful at times. I believe he is on the bubble

C. Prosinski- I have no idea how he has remained on the team. The guy can't cover or tackle

D. Robinson- This is going to be his prove it year. He has to learn to hang on to the football and be productive

C. Henne- He had had both great and horrible games. Overall pretty average. Safe for this year but who knows next

Roy Miller- Yes he was hurt last year but he needs to be productive to remain on this team

Great article by Alfie Crow, the number one Alualu apologist in Jacksonville.

He hits all the buzz phrases in defending Alualu:

Quote:Alualu wasn't necessarily bad in the Jaguars four-man front

Quote:There were growing pains early in the season, but Alualu settled in the back half of the season and did an adequate job.

Quote:The biggest issue however is that Alualu had no help at the position and was really the team's only true five-technique end outside of undrafted rookie Abry Jones.

Bortles leading poll on NFL.com right now

I don't know if the fans have a lot of respect for Bortles or no respect for Henne.  Right now it's a close battle between bridgewater  with bortles getting over a 3rd of the vote to start the regular season
