  Jerome Junior
Posted by: jSpence - 05-19-2014, 10:10 PM - Replies (6)

Jerome Junior, was signed from the tryout players. He was a three yrs starter at UCONN, has the size, strength, speed. Transferred after violating team rules at UCONN. seems like a guy who slipped through the cracks, that has a real shot at a roster spot.

Completely excited about our two new Smiths

Telvin's speed is killer, and Chris Could be an absolute steal. I have a solid feeling our FAs and our draft picks will be getting to the quarterback at a better rate than in the last couple years. I'd love to hear what everyone else thinks.

  Question about Blake's arm strength
Posted by: JAGANTIUS - 05-19-2014, 03:21 PM - Replies (63)

Question for the guys and girls that went to mini camp. I keep hearing that Blake throws ducks. Do you think it because of his mechanics or is it truly he has a average to below average arm?

Because watching him on film he does through wobblers sometimes, but he appear's to be pretty accurate. Just wanted to get first hand impressions

  Vegas odd's makers...
Posted by: muddylips - 05-19-2014, 12:33 PM - Replies (15)

I just saw the ESPN article where, once again, Vegas have selected the Jaguars to finish dead last. Given our history, I can see why someone who hasn’t done too much research on the team’s recent veteran FA and draft acquisitions could think that. However, the odd’s makers in Vegas are professionals and, unlike the vast majority of the teams fan base, probably far more objective in their assessment.

Still, I find it hard to understand that given the quality of the coaching and the overall upgrades in talent that the Jag’s should be so looked down upon; especially by people whose livelihood depends on making accurate projections.

While it is true that most, if not all, the teams have acquired new talent via veteran FA and the draft, not all teams have done so equally well. The Jaguars draft was rated an ‘A’ by ESPN, while the Colts received only a ‘C’. Our FA acquisition has earned us the nickname of the ‘Southern Seahawks’ due to our head coach and a number of former Seahawk players now being here. How could we not be dramatically improved?

Here’s how:

Remember that while many of our veteran FA’s came from the Seahawks, some of them are getting a little ‘long in the tooth’. While it’s true that we’ve had two seasons now of excellent drafting (thanks to our new GM) our newest rookies are totally untested in the NFL. The college game and the NFL are two different worlds. We don’t know if Blake Bortles will work out to be a successful franchise quarterback for us. We hope so; he has a lot of positives going for him, but he is still untested. Eventually, we’ll see…

The same story goes for all our other new rookies too. They seem to have demonstrated the ‘right stuff’ in college ball, enough so to impress our GM and head coach. But the bottom line remains the bottom line. We’ll have to wait and see how they do.

In the meantime, the best we can hope for is that the Jag’s will, in the words of the coach of the Cleveland Indians from the movie ‘Major League’, try their best to serve the odd’s makers a @#$% burger and make them all take a bite!

  Congratulations on good draft
Posted by: SeaSea - 05-19-2014, 07:03 AM - Replies (18)

I really like what you did.

First, I was surprised at Bortles pick like almost all of you (I expected Mack, Watkins or trade down), but the more I read about him, more I think he could be a very good QB in the future. I also like the plan of sitting him for a year or at least half the season (I think he could start last 4-6 games), until OL and rookie receivers will gel together.

I like both Lee and Robinson. Lee is very underrated. He would be a sure top 10/15 pick in 2013. I  hope he can stay healthy. Robinson was together with Latimer on my wish list for a taller WR for Seattle (we went other way, but I'm also happy with Richardson and Norwood). He can be a very good red zone target and a solid #2 WR, maybe with potential to be #1 WR.

I feel like Telvin Smith could be one of the steals of this draft. He can be a beast on your defense.

Colvin is also a good value pick. He probably won't play much this season, but can develop into a good CB. He needs to get more strength after his recovery, though.

I don't know anything about your OL picks (I'm bad at evaluating OL talents or better said, I don't like to watch tape of O-Linemen Smile), but Jaguars needed help at guard and center position, so there you go.

I liked Storm Johnson in Fiesta Bowl, but he really needs to work on ball security.

Most of the picks probably won't have an immediate impact in 2014, but that's ok. They were drafted for 2015 and beyond. I think the Jags will be more competitive this season, but it's still a work in progress and they need at least one good offseason (draft and free agency) before they can become a playoff team. But you're on the right way and I feel fans can be really optimistic about this team future. I also think I will jump on Jaguars bandwagon, before it's too late. Smile

Go Gus, go Big Red&Clem, go Jaguars! Smile
