The winner if the Winston vs Mariota bowl be the 1st overall pick?
|
Winston pretty much has the nation against him. He's nowhere near the level he was playing at last season, but the dude is clutch, and scouts are seeing that. I think he'll be a star in the league, but the question is, how far up the draft board is a team willing to take him?
My opinion.. Winston without the off field problems, top 15 Winston with the on field problems, anywhere 1-2 round.. Side note, one thing he'll definitely have to work on is staring down his receivers. The NFL will eat him alive if he doesn't work on that.. We show less advertisements to registered users. i think honest opinion of where winston goes is right around where manziel went.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

I think JW goes in top 5 Quote:don't know about that, both similiar off the field but at least Winston has the protypical size cam newton single handedly won the championship at blinn and then came and put the team on his back at auburn too. he was on another level. he should be even better in the NFL than he is but the panthers apparently think he doesnt need any weapons.

Quote:don't know about that, both similiar off the field but at least Winston has the protypical size I disagree on both accounts. From a physical/QB standpoint...Cam is on another level compared to JFF and JW. Yes, Winston does have better measurables than Manziel, but a lot of the issues Manziel had were more boneheaded/party jock type of stuff, which I think NFL people weigh less than a couple of the stuff hanging over Jameis' head (which could have some legal repercussions, even if it looks like at best it will be civil). Physically, Cam is on a different level than any NFL QBs, Luck and Big Ben included. Winston, on the other hand, is comparable to Blake Bortles physically and athletically. I know he made a lot of rash decisions this year which is why the int number goes up, but you just can't deny that he gets the job done every saturday.
To say that Winston would go top 15 without the off field problem is selling him short. In fact, I strongly believe that if the college season is over at this moment and the draft is in a month, he would go top 5. Jets, Titans, Bucs, and even Redskins -- heck, even the Rams should they decide to trade up -- are all desperate for someone new under center. Even considering the NFL domestic issues and bad publicity, I just can't see a scenerio were any one of those team passes him. I'd still say he goes ahead of Mariota.
Winston is top 5. Don't know what folks are smoking talking off field issues. What issues are yall getting at? A fake rape accusation? Hard to rape somebody while they're on top of you. The rest is bs. Florida State is gonna win this championship and he'll have scouts drooling. Mariota is not a better prospect than Winston any day out the year. Truth be told after they win, I think Winston goes back for the 3-peat.

He's made some pretty bad decisions on those INTs all year. Granted, he's been under pressure a lot thanks to that OL, but that will be weighted against him. That said, we all know what being big, strong, and mobile will do to the draft stock of a QB...just ask Blaine Gabbert. If JW plays well in the playoffs, and finds a way to rehab his image in the off-season, then yes, I can see him being taken in the top 10 perhaps even before. But I'm not going to discount that some teams would sour on him based on both on and off-field performance this season. Quote:Winston is top 5. If Winston drops to the 2nd round and is there when the Jags pick. Snatch him up!

If nothing else you keep him here for a couple years, let one of the qb's show their stuff and use them as trade bait. What we got for Rob Johnson was highway robbery. I think Winston will go between 15-30. You just never know. Only takes oneQB needy team to fall in love. I honestly don't know if he will be a good pro or not. He has the size, strength and leadership you like to see on game day. He is a force on the sideline. I know that sounds silly, but he is like a coach getting the most out of every player from offense to defense. It is big in college football. Ultimately how he plays on the field will determine his success in the NFL, but you like to see that from your QB.
I think an important factor will be the number of teams desperate for a new quarterback this season and the lack of any quality beyond MM and JW.
That will push their value up. (And that could be good news for us) You will almost certainly have the Bills, Bucaneers, Texans, Jets and Titans all in the market. And possibly the Rams, Cardinals, Redskins and Bears too. And who would they realistically want, if they can't have one of the top two ?

It contributed to a lot of his poor throws and interceptions. He has not been able to step into his throws and his scrambling ability was affected. He was finally at about 90 percent on the ankle at the ACC championship game and it showed in his performance. Winston will go top 5 or 10. He's already played in a pro style offenseand doesn't play in a gimmick offense like Oregon. His off field issues won't keep teams away, he has only been convicted of a misdemeanor. |
