Since we couldn't get Randall Cobb..

Dave repeatedly said he wanted to upgrade our slot WR position this year.
He also has repeatedly said his primary goal is to help Blake out. So why not grab Nelson Agholor at #36? We would be upgrading out slot position as well as our PR position significantly. During out time scouting Marqise Lee last year, maybe they also liked his teammate Nelson? Looking at cutups, he looks actually more explosive than Marqise Lee did at USC, which is saying a lot. Mayock has him as a potential 1st round pick now. I think it's a possibility especially if we go Fowler/Williams/Beasley in round 1. Thoughts? http://www.nfl.com/draft/2015/profiles/n...id=2552600

No thx, dont want to go a 2nd round WR 3 picks in a row for our 2nd round picks. If we go WR in the first 2 picks I would rather Cooper in the 1st. But for me I would rather Maxx Williams in the 2nd if he is still there before we go WR. 2 TE sets with Williams and Thomas could be nasty
I think Dave's thirst for a slot receiver is being overstated pretty badly. He merely said that the only real spot they were still poking around in FA was a veteran slot WR, emphasis on veteran to me. I don't think that means he is desperate to grab a rookie slot WR early in the draft.
Not that Agholor or Lockett or Dorsett or whoever would necessarily be a bad pick on day 2 because I like most of them fine (I do NOT like Ty Montgomery), but I don't think Dave thinks it's nearly as huge of a need as it is being made out to be on here or especially by the beat guys.

If "veteran" was what mattered, they could've just re-signed Cecil Shorts. Cobb is like 25 years old so he's still a very young veteran. He was targeted because he's very good and because he's young, not because he's a veteran IMO. I wouldn't go with Lockett or Dorsett because they are too short for my liking (yes - to me that matters). If those two just lose half a step by year 2 or 3, they will be pretty much useless.

This is supposed to be another deep draft for WRs, so find a 4th round slot WR.

Barring a trade, or them liking DGB, odds are our WR will come in round 3 or 4. Round 2 will target a different position (LB,DE,OL,DB), or will snag an unexpected value faller from round 1.

I mean in the press conference after they introduced the 6 new signees (after Cobb was long gone), when Dave said the only real spot they were still looking to improve was veteran slot WR. Him in the 4th would make me very happy. Jarvis Landry clone to me...with slightly worse hands.
Seriously, stop with the Amari Cooper. I keep seeing the only way we should go WR in the 1st 2 rounds is if it is Cooper. Just stop. I think Agholor would be a much better option than Cooper for a simple reason: The return game. Cooper brings nothing to the return game, a guy like Agholor does. We don't need just another receiver. We need a receiver to come in and fix or at least upgrade the return game.

He had like 5 punt returns for a TD in college and just looks both quick AND fast, which is pretty rare. He put up nearly the same crazy numbers at USC that Marqise Lee did, and is a much better punt returner and also slightly taller/longer. If Marqise was great value last year, I don't see how Nelson Agholor is any worse value this year at 36.

Quote:Ace wasnt that bad, he was ok PR until last year, and had like 50 catches his rookie year, I think his off field issues hurt him He sucked as a PR even as a rookie. The only big return he had was called back due to a penalty. I wasn't impressed by his 40 catches as a rookie. Someone has to catch them - you give someone that much playing time and you're bound to catch a few. I didn't like the pick because he's small and slow. When you're under 5'10", you have to be incredibly fast to make up for that - he wasn't.

Quote:I love Coooper because I think he can be a legit #1 option for Blake.Thats the issue, they are pretty much the same guy, we have too much holes to load up on the same guy to battle it out, I dont like DGB due to off field issues but him or Lockett and Dorsett would make more since then Agholor

Dorsett has a little more speed too, but Agholor is plenty fast.

I think the NFL.com review on Agholor is about perfect. The main points, he will excel in the Slot and the Return game where he will be a game changer. What do we need most at WR? A slot guy and a return guy and a game changer in some capacity. Check, Check and Check.

Doss led the league in 2013 in average punt return yards but got was on IR last year and he will be back . So yeah, If we go a WR in the first 2 rounds give me Cooper in the 1st and we have out number 1 WR for years to come. http://espn.go.com/nfl/statistics/player.../year/2013 |
