Von Miller

#41

Quote:Considering Von Miller wants to be the NFL's richest linebacker and Denver needs to cut some players to make that happen, the Broncos probably need to tag him before other teams start making offers. Ian Rapoport tweeted he will get the tag for that reason.

It would be blatant tampering if another team makes an offer to Von Miller under this scenario.

On March 9, Von Miller officially becomes a free agent. If he is not tagged, how is it tampering after that date?

You didn't write this in your above statement.   What you wrote this time would be the case if shockingly Von Miller hit the open market with no restrictions.

Sorry if I was not clear the first time. What I meant was the Broncos need to tag Von Miller to prevent other teams from offering him more money after March 9.

And with that, I am ready to take a break from posting here until Draft Week. See you all in April!  Smile

 No problem.

I certainly agree that the Franchise Tag is necessary if the Broncos can't work out a long term contract before the Tag deadline.

Enjoy your time away from the Forum!

How about this for a twist? DeMarcus Ware has a 2016 Cap Hit of over $11.6 Million, but only has a Dead Money hit of $1.6 Million. In other words, if they Cut / Release Ware they stand to gain about $10 Million in Cap space.

While I think that most everyone's first choice would be Miller, would Ware be an attractive second option? He has stated that he has no plans to retire (don't they all say that though?) and he seems to be performing at a high level. I think he'd be a very good choice for a "Plan B" type.

Eh...Ware has to be pretty close to retirement.  Unless it's like a one year deal or a two year deal where we can cut him easily next year, I'd pass.

I wouldn't mind Ware as a Plan B stop gap. That will give Fowler a chance to acclimate himself without the pressure of living up to draft status. Ware has a few good years left in him. Pair him with another mid tier FA and a guy in the draft and our pass rush should get instantly better.

But as for Plan A.....If it happens to snow in hell on March 9th and Von Miller does hit FA then I expect Khan to personally fly out to Denver, walk up to Miller's house, ring the door bell, and hand over a blank check while twirling his mustache and winking incessantly.

He'll be 34 when next season starts. I'd be very concerned about him Clemons-ing out.

I dunno...He looked pretty good this past Sunday. Obviously he's not a long term solution but if you can get another year of above average production out of him and let Fowler get his legs under him it may be worth it.

Tamba Hali is another stop gap possibility. Is 32 but had a good year this past year. I think he could give us one good year at the very least.

^This. He's got his ring, now its time to go collect a paid vacation somewhere to end his career.

I think its easy for a guy to get up for one game, particular if that game is the most important game of your career, playing in front of a hundred million people.

^this.  They took Dee Ford and want to begin giving his more time now, as he played behind Houston and Hali.  I think they'll let Hali hit free agency.

Tamba Hali would be nice. He definitely has a season or two left in the tank.

I understand the trepidation about his age, and I'm not suggesting that he be THE answer to the team's pass rush issues, but he did still post 7 sacks in 11 Regular Season games last year, and 3 1/2 in the Playoffs.

True. But he was still pretty productive this season despite missing 5 games.
