Quote:Wow ... that is really cool .... and humorous if the Stoke fans were really singing the Southampton song which sounds like it must have been them.

I need to get out there in a few years during late august & sept to travel to some of the matches.   I use google earth right now to take vacations to the UK cities while sipping on some drinks !!   much cheaper that way too.   .... and yes, Newcastle would be a destination of interest for me along with some of the other towns up that way as well.

If you're ever on the South Coast, I'll take you to a Southampton game (providing this board stays up and running and we can keep in touch). Southampton's stadium is rocking on gameday..

Quote:It's Hove, actually.

Actually no, no it's not.

If we're talking about the Stadium which is what I was basing it on, it's Falmer. Which is Brighton. In the borough of Brighton & Hove and under the Unitary Authority of Brighton and Hove.

That's if we're going to be pernickety...

I think he was making the joke about people from Hove being a bit posh and saying "it's Hove actually" because they don't like to say they live in Brighton.

Brighton season ticket holder here Smile Just a quick note, the 53 miles between Smellhurst and the Amex is a lot closer than Portman Road (Ipswich) and Carrow Road (Norwich), the Old Farm Derby which is a ferociously contested rivalry. The distance is nothing, the hatred is everything.

What does the rivalry stand for? As in, where does it come from?...

It started back in the 70's, there were a few close games between the two teams which culminated in Palace pipping us to the league. There was bad blood between the managers of both clubs too, Terry Venables(Palace) and Alan Mullery clashed various times. We adopted the nickname Seagulls in response to Palace singing "Eagles", we were originally known as the Dolphins. The rivalry is ridiculous, the last time we played at Palace in the league the police had to erect 'The Wall' to prevent fans clashing. The Wall is a 10ft high solid metal barrier which stretches from houses on one side of the road to the other. It's full police escort from the station to the stadium but you still get peppered with bottles and pint glasses. It's the same when they come to us. It's not the most high profile rivalry but it is absolutely savage.
