And they are very strong meds. I have a now former friend who is bipolar and it was quite an experience to learn about it by seeing it and being around it. As long as she stayed on her meds she was relatively normal, but if she was feeling great during a manic phase and decided she didn't need to take them anymore there are no words to describe the hell she would rain down on any and everyone who she felt was a threat. It doesn't help that she is a legit narcissist which makes her manic phases even worse. In her depressive phase she's suicidal and extremely paranoid. These people are very abusive physically and mentally to themselves and others when they are not on their meds. I've only ever truly been afraid of one person in my life and it was her. I don't blame you. It's hard to reconcile what I know about how BP disorder affects those who have it with how it makes them treat others. They can't control what it does to them. I used to think it was an overblown disease in how it has been portrayed in the media and in hollywood because they exaggerate everything, then I met my former friend and it is no joke. I certainly don't feel sorry for the guy and I don't give him a pass either. |
