I've read superficial ESPN articles highlighting former players, like Steve Smith, reacting with glee, but another article suggests it means that owner Richardson thought Gettleman was too ruthlessly efficient at cleaning up the salary-cap mess the previous GM Hurney left. Even if Gettleman didn't have the best relationship with some fan favorites, expect a step back for the Panthers.

It wasn't even 18 months since the Panthers played in the Super Bowl when Dave Gettleman got fired.   I was very surprised when I heard he was fired.
