I agree. I think he's a good player. He was a victim of an over abundance of talent on a stacked d line. Good luck in San Fran.
Coughlin when asked if winning will be a focus: "What the hell else is there? This is nice and dandy, but winning is what all this is about."

Classic case of a numbers game. I am a little surprised they kept Ankou over Day. Ankou, Abry and of course Dareus are all run-stopping nose tackle types. The team doesn't really have a backup for Malik on the roster after cutting Day, unless they think highly of Hunter Dimick or Darius Kilgo in that role.

Malik, Dareus, Calais, Abry can all play 3 tech pretty well. Ankou can moonlight as one. Lots of depth there.

I thought Sheldon Day had a promising future in Jacksonville as Malik Jackson's backup. Why would we keep no-name guys who were just acquired this year and played very little instead of someone with experience in the system?

Talented but was expendable and getting deep on the roster.

Did he play today? Curious to see if he was making the same mistakes as here (over-penetrating).

Because size matters silly...

Your actions become your habits,
Your habits become your values,
Your values become your destiny.

If Sheldon Day was too small to do his job very well I doubt we would have drafted him at all. He is good for a man his size.

Now that is an error that I have never heard before.
I'm trying to make myself more informed and less opinionated.

Stop saying whatever stupid thing you're talking about and pay attention to all the interesting things I have to say!

He was a bit of a project I think. Undersized inside DL guy who was pass rush specialist only it seemed.

It's part of the reason he went in round 4 (iirc)

He was a role player for a couple seasons and out the door he went.... it's the NFL, this isn't that crazy.
(It's because of the talent level of our roster that we now can cut 4th and 5th round guys drafted a couple seasons ago, it's a good problem to have)

Sorry, I guess size does indeed matter!

Not sure I understand over-penetration. Does he fill the gap too quickly?

No, he runs through it and past everyone. That leads to long opponent runs. When he was asked to stay with his man and take up space, he was easily tossed aside. If he wasn't running past the QB or RB, he was laying on the ground!

I thought overpenetration was one word, first of all. At least it should be.

Filling the gap too quickly is imipossible. You want to close the gap as quickly as possible.
