Fortunately for you, that type of surgery can be done laproscopically. When I was first diagnosed with my cancer, they removed my right Kidney Laproscopically. It is far less invasive, and the recovery time and pain levels are greatly reduced. Although it sucks to have to undergo any type of surgery, at least thank your lucky stars that it isn't cancer. While advancements in cancer care have increased exponentially in recent years, it is still a very tough thing to go through. Not a day goes by where I don't think about mine. I am stage 4 Renal Cell Carcinoma, and have recurred 3 times in the 3 years since being diagnosed. The thing that keeps me awake many a night is knowing that people with stage 4 of my cancer have a 7% chance of living 5 years or longer. I'm 3 years in now, and it's hard to not count the days.

I'm right now going through a nearly identical situation. A while back I posted about having an ugly cancer tumor removed. They did a scan a couple months later that showed up with two suspicious spots in my lungs and one in my spleen. I had another scan a couple weeks ago to see if the spots are growing, and one of them appears to be. Because of its form, they're not sure it's cancer, but it very well could be so I now have to schedule a PET scan. If it looks like cancer on the PET, they'll have to go into my lung with a tube to do the biopsy, and if it is cancer I'll probably have to go on immunotherapy.

My wife's boss was diagnosed with breast cancer I'm thinking nearly four years ago. Doctors at the time gave her six months to live, but she's still kicking. She even turned down chemo until recently fighting the cancer largely through natural means.
