Elfrid Payton ---Good Bye / Good Riddance

#1

After trading up 2 spots to get Payton, the rap on this dude was that he had to develop his outside shot but was considered a defensive specialist.

While Payton's mid-range jumper improved over the past few years, he pretty much threw up bricks from 3 and allowed point guards to blow right by him on defense.  Defensively, this dude was a huge disappointment.  I mean seriously, how does Oladipo (Pacers) go for 24 and a few days later, Harden (Rockets) scores 60 against the Magic.  Combine his poor play with his pathetic hair .... it came to a point where I would get sick watching this hideous dude on the court.

GOOD BYE ELFRID AND GOOD RIDDANCE.

Just shows how bad the Magic have been at drafting. A high first round pick traded for a second round pick.

Even when they try do the right thing the Magic mess up. Just look at the caliber of players who regularly go for 2nd round picks..

Not only that but the Magic traded up 2 spots (from 12 to 10) to get him.  All in all, the Magic gave up their (late) 1st round pick in 2017 and their 2nd round pick in 2015 to move up 2 spots and get E. Payton.  The late 1st round pick they gave up apparently was linked to D. Howard.

He better not start playing at an allstar level in 2 years like Oladipo did. Seriously, how do the Magic turn wins into losses? I never liked the trade up for Elfrid tho.

Yes, it's improvement, but it's Blaine Gabbert 2012 level improvement. - Pirkster

Magic failed to pick of Mario's Herzonja's Option Year at $5m -- now he's playing lights out upon Payton's departure. 23 and 24 points respectively and shooting 16 of 30

... is Gene Smith the GM down there?

I always wonder why they didn't give him more run, the guy was supposed to translate very well to the NBA game. Its like JJ Reddick, where he wasn't given any time till his final year when they trade him. He has been solid ever since.

Its like the Magic are a developmental team for other teams at this point.

Magic GM Strategy - Draft players based on potential then let them go before they reach their potential.  One could probably place Elfrid in that classification but his hair really irritated me (especially when he's giving up 60 to Harden) .... LOL

Its hard to guard what you can't see, and its hard to see when your hair is over your eyes. Watch the suns force him to shave that hair and he suddenly becomes an allstar.

As silly as this sound i honestly believe his hair is the problem. You can clearly see it messing with his shot. I'm not sure about defensively, but hair that big messes with your release. And being forced to do a side release messes with your game unless you're one of the few that have always shot that way, which is counter to anything anyone would ever teach you.

Actually, I tend to agree.  I pretty much lived on the court and I do know that shooting with a hat on throws everything off and as you can see by the pic below, the hair extension kind of resembles the bill of a baseball hat.

such a dumb haircut, especially for a basketball player. I guess its interesting, but a terrible choice. If I was going to resign him, I would have a hair cut clause in his contract, he needs to flip that cap backwards.
