WR Brice Butler

#1

The WR has a visit scheduled with the Jaguars.

Butler at 6'3" would easily be our biggest WR should he sign, and he's a considerable deep threat considering he averaged over 21 yards per catch this past season, and averages over 16 yards per year over his six years in the league. He's never been a top guy to really get the numbers, but he consistently gets something like 250 to 300 yards per season.

He was under used by the cowboys. He'd give us a serious crew of deep threats. I'm a fan but I'd imagine he'll go somewhere with a better chance of him getting playtime.

My God we're acting like the Yankees with no salary cap in baseball. We are trying to sign everybody. LOL

Four visits for him : Cards, Seahawks, Bears and us.

Would love to get him here.

He's a decent #5 for the right price. Did some good things in Dallas sporadically.
Could be seen as injury insurance for Moncreif or Lee.

Regarding the OP comment that he'd be "easily our biggest receiver" - Moncreif actually outweighs him and carries a bigger frame than Butler.
Butler has one inch in height over Moncreif.

He would provide veteran presence behind Lee, Moncrief and 2 second year players for the right price.

Wait I just need clarification, are all FAs castoffs or only the non-Pro Bowlers?

He's fast two... again maybe even faster than Dede.

According to NFL Draftscout, one year prior to Moncrief running his 4.34 at the combine,  Brice Butler ran an official 4.37 at his pro day with a "fastest 40" of 4.27.

Would be a nice depth piece to compete in camp.

Just looking at his stats it seems he did a lot with the free targets he received.

Apparently he told Dallas he wanted to be a starter or nothing. Take that FWIW
IT WAS ALWAYS THE JAGS

Butler signed a 1 year deal last season for $1.1m to stay with the Cowboys for his 3rd season (6th seasons total in NFL). He had 15 receptions last year, with 21 being his highest total in 2014 with the Raiders. On Colin Herd's show, he indicated he would not go back to the Cowboys again unless he would be a starter. When they signed other WRS in Hurns and Thompson in free agency, Butler got his answer to a starting gig in Big D. At 6'3 220, he's a big target with speed, but his production has just never materialized in college or the pros. Besides the Jags, he's got visits with Seahawks, Bears, and Cards scheduled. Interesting 2nd wave type signing if he's willing to backup up Moncreif on a minimum salary. He's 28 years old.

Well he's confident in himself that's for sure.

If they can get him cheap, let him compete, and/or possibly rotate, with Moncreif on the outside.

Remember where we got Jimmy Smith from...

I'm not saying this guy is that good, but you never know.  It all depends on the price tag.

I can see it, and prefer it over drafting any first round WR other than Calvin Ridley or Courtland Sutton.  ...and that includes anyone with DJ as his first name.
