The 2018 TE class

#61

We gotta land one of these guys.

Let's just hope the Jaguars are aware enough to take someone who's a dynamic receiver who can hopefully block instead if some blocking savant with brick hands

Its shaping up that we should be able to grab a nice TE or two in the 3rd.

We need to address this position seriously this time around. We need to draft a TE within the first 2 rounds. No more of these halfhearted attempts. If we plan on getting a rookie QB in the next 2 years then he needs a TE to help him out. No FAs anymore. Our last good TE was drafted in the first round 12 years ago. What kind of foolishness is that? Enough. Also screw a blocking TE, this league is transitioning to athletic, pass catching TEs. You can draft an average TE to block on the other side in Rounds 3 and 4 but we need a pass catching, athletic TE.

You'd think, but we thought this the last two draft previously and were wrong...

I'm praying the third time's a charm.

That 2017 class was so deep. Hard to believe how late a few of those guys were on the board.
Sprinkle and Kittle may have been second rounders in last year's TE crop.

Have zero doubt Hayden Hurst would have been our guy if not for the Ravens saving us (Predictably outplayed by Mark Andrews)

Yeah people way overthought Andrews' diabetes. He was a great prospect.

We need to get with the times with a dynamic pass catching TE, like a Kelcey. Because, however you spell his long name that we signed as a free agent, he just a tall big slow guy then he got hurt, what was it his core, need to do more situps. Then you got showhonessee, he just a avg possession TE.

I wouldn't be upset if we drafted 2 TEs this year. We need them bad.

I'm not getting the Irv love personally. I'll watch more, but from what I've seen he looks very stiff once he gets the ball in his hands. Maybe I've just been spoiled by the likes of Howard/Kittle/Andrews/etc in the last two classes.

Given the other holes we have, I might be. A TE isn't winning any game for us, nor are we a TE away from being a playoff contender.

I am not saying draft 2 before drafting a OL or a QB. But I would be ok if we drafted 2 as opposed to drafting another WR.

T.J. Hockhenson declared today. He might be the best TE in the draft.

Where would yall rank the last few TE classes if you put them all together? I think I would go

1. Howard
2. Hockenson
3. Goedert
4. Gesicki / Andrews
5. Evan Ingram/ Caleb Wilson / Fant

Would like to through Sternberger in there somewhere too. Been a great 3 years for a TE. Years before 2017 there was a long stretch were the TE class' were weak spot in the draft. Kinda like RB was a few years back. The last 3 years though it's been a strength and we better take advantage of it this year because that streak of a good TE class is likely to end soon

Watching Kaden Smith atm and really impressed.

Strong hands combined with great coordination means he can adjust to passes with ease. Pretty clear he understands leverage and makes use of his size vs smaller defenders, real good at finding the soft spots in coverage. Pretty standard TE size at 6'5 250ish but not a lumbering type of guy. Haven't been paying close attention to his blocking much yet.

Obvious comp is Austin Hooper as both played for Stanford but he really does have a similar playstyle to him and I think he'll be a good receiving threat for years. I think he's a guy who will unfortunately go at the back end of the 2nd but if he's there early in the 3rd I'd nab him.

He's not very "flashy", and certainly not going to be a Kelce type but he can absolutely be a consistent 500/600 yards a year guy. If his blocking holds up I see now reason why he can't contribute as a rookie too.
