Draft Priority by Position

#1

This keeps popping up in several threads, so I figured it can have it's own discussion.

Tell us how you prioritize the team's needs in the draft. Feel free to update and alter responses as we add players in FA.

Obviously the possibilities are vast in number , so poll options are limited.

Definitely go with TE, OL, WR, and RB2. Foles works well with a really good TE in the mix. I think that needs to be top priority in Rd 1.

1st Round: Taylor/Hockenson
I'd be happy with either.

2nd Round: Lindstrom/Fant/Little/Risner
Grab the top OL left.

3rd round: Dawson Knox/Jace Sternberger
If we don't go TE 1st/2nd I like this duo in the 3rd.

Although, thats not really the question I suppose. As for our needs, if we ignore value of different positions and just say which positions currently have the lowest rated players in them, I would say it goes TE, RT, FS, RG, RB2, WR, LB.

TE, OL, (WR/backup QB)

parenthetical can change order but both go in the 3rd.

If you were guaranteed the following, which scenario would you choose:

1. RD1- Hockenson. RD2- Risner.
2. RD1- Taylor. RD2- Fant.
3. RD 1- Quinen Williams. RD2- Paris Campbell.

A million times over option 2 - absolute dream draft is anything where Fant falls to the second for us.

Given those 3 options...first reaction is option 2. Complete the OL pretty much and get a playmaker TE. While option 1 does the same I like Taylor over Risner a lot more than I like Hock over Fant.

Q. Williams is probably the best player but WR value just not there for me for option 3. Campbell is a good player but with that option you don't have a RT/TE/RG...could maybe find 2 of those in round 3 but finding 3 possible starters would be really hard.

If the draft did fall something like that I'd grab Q. Williams if no one wanted to trade down. I think he can be extremely dominant moreso than Taylor at his position.

2nd round give me Fant for sure.

3rd: Hope some of then OL prospects fall

TE is the biggest need by far.

RT is a bigger need than WR2/3, but WR is a bigger need overall than OL.

We're one good player short of a good oline, we're at least 2 good players short of a good WR corps.

We need Chark to really take strides but Dede/Chark isn't that bad and hopefully Lee can give us something.  Maybe Cole can learn to hold onto the ball again with a more accurate QB.

We know you dont really value the olineman, you never really have.  Cann is far from good.

No he's not, but they just gave him a multi year mid starter level salary deal. He's going to be starting at RG.

I disagree, I think we are just one big-bodied X Receiver type away from feeling quite happy with the WR group.

TE, OL, FS, WR. Trade back and pick up TE and OL. FS and WR is a toss up depending on if Byron murphy is available.

TE and OL could be interchangeable

However I gotta think with the Cann signing and the Richardson pick that OL takes a back seat to a playmaker at the TE position. Where we currently have Koyack and Swaim.

I picked TE, OL, WR, RB2

Which is essentially how I think the draft will go, with OL and TE maybe switching if we trade back, and WR and RB could be both round 2 picks interchangeably, imo, based on value of who is available.

Wildcard though... is despite what our "greatest need" may be.... this front office may select a defensive player in the first round, perhaps even DL, based on the amount of talent and the "depth" at positions that we have greater needs at

If it's a true dominant WR1 like Metcalf at 7 then sure that + Dede + whatever we get from Chark/Cole/Lee could be quite good. If it's Dede + the enigma trio + a mid round WR then we're going to be in trouble.
