6th round pick : QB Gardner Minshew

#21

Hes got one hell of a personality and we're going to get some great quotes from him, that's for sure. He'll be an instant fan favorite because of that alone.

Maybe he'll be the outlier, but the history of QBs in the NFL that have come from Mike Leech's system isn't good at all. They all light it up in College, but never do anything in the NFL.

I wonder why we keep getting these late round QBs, we never do anything with em. Get some tackles for depth, or some WRs

This is great. This just shows us the FO hasn't forgotten about the QB position. I'm so glad they care about the offense.

They did forget that they have time and time again failed to develop young QBs from scratch

Great story here

Tragic story on one side, and improbable (perhaps unbelievable) opportunity on the other side of the coin.

Did a very admirable job as a starter when it was almost certain he wouldn't have the chance.

Not sure I can root for this guy enough to win QB2!

Excellent mechanics? Actually, his mechanics are terrible. he throws off his back foot and almost never drives the ball by transferring his weight properly. He might have a chance if those issues get fixed, but he is a project QB at best.

Kessler 2.0. Don't know why you all are so hyped thinking he's the future.

Link a single opinion stating as such.

We'll wait.

Starting from scratch is overrated. That's only worked for the few teams that have won the SB in the past 5 years.

Not sure why we went minshew instead of tyree Jackson. We got a guy whose ceiling is essentially what Kessler is now. Why not roll the dice on a guy with an elite arm and good mobility?

The thing you want in a backup QB is a guy who knows the system and the playbook, and that is one of Minshew's strengths, because he has learned 4 different systems and playbooks while in college, to the point where he mastered the one at Washington State in 2 weeks flat, with pretty great results- an 11 win season, a bowl game win, Johnny Unitas Golden Arm award, and 5th in the Heisman balloting.

His weaknesses are things that are common in backup QBs: measurables.

So to me, he's a perfect backup QB.   Teammates love him, he'll be great in the QB meetings because of his mental ability, and if he has to come into the game suddenly, he'll run the right plays and make the right moves.  He'll be reliable.

Tyree Jackson didn't even get drafted.   If we had drafted Tyree Jackson, people would have complained that we wasted a draft pick in a guy who could have been hired as a rookie free agent.  And this time, they would have been right.

Because NO ONE DRAFTED HIM.

Anyone check out strong opinion spirts analysis on Gardner. If not check it out kid has potential. This is coming from a Canadian fan so don't get much NCAA gamea here. Never seen him ay just highlights. And this kid just looks like he has the IT factor. If he can get used to using legs to give him more velocity he could be very special.

If he can complete over 70% of his passes by throwing off of his back foot, maybe all QBs need to be taught that technique.

Minshew's completion % is skewed due to a good amount of his passing attempts coming from behind the Line of Scrimmage. His down field accuracy isn't that good. He threw 246 passes to players behind the LoS.

In Leach's air raid offense, 70% is average. Minshew isn't close to being ready to play in the NFL. His mechanics are awful. Watch film.

Very interesting posting history billwade. 2 posts lavishing praise on Foles after he signs, and now 2 very defensive posts about Minshew. He's only fighting for the backup job, your boy Nick is safe !!
