Yes, I agree and that's what contributed to him being a bust as a 2nd round pick.

57 yards + 1 TD in his final 6 years (of a 9 year career) pretty much says it all.

For comparison sake, Michael Turner was drafted in the 4th round in 2004

Turner rushed for 7738 yards and had 66 TD - 4.5 yards per carry
Jones rushed for 913 yards and had 10 TDs - 3.4 yards per carry

Turner could have prolonged MJDs career by splitting carries.  Heck, Greg Jones got the ball at the 1 four straight times and could not score.  He could not get low and was not even a factor at the goal line.

Dallas drafted Darryl "Moose" Johnston in the second round in 1989.

Was he a bust?

FBs typically don't carry the ball in this day and age.  Using FB yardage to argue a player is a bust is unpersuasive.

Now making the argument that blocking FBs should not be taken in the second round is a different animal.  If this is what you are advancing, I could buy this argument.

But teams draft FBs knowing what their contributions to the scheme are likely to be.  Teams draft them knowing they won't get the bulk of the carries, and they are okay with that.  I've never seen JDR in any hurry to cut Jones.

Worst to 1st.  Curse Reversed!

The only fullback (probably more like H-Back hybrid in Flip's offense) left on the "roster" now are camp invitees.

Carson Meier (Oklahoma) and Anthony Manzo-Lewis (Albany)

Meier's reel shows some great run blocks, a bit of protection and some solid hands.

Manzo-Lewis just completed the Chargers rookie camp and he can block and catch.

I think it is clear that we aren't gonna have a FB this year, at least not in any traditional sense.

Manzo-Lewis also played in every game for the powerhouse running Memphis Express. Week one he rushed 4 times for 14 yards, week 3 he scored a 2-pt conversion, and then week 8 he caught a 6-yard pass. His run blocking paved the way for Zac Stacy to rack up yards.

Yes, he was great in college prior to his injury.

He was a bust with the Jags (for where he was drafted).  Sure, he then changed his game when they realized he was slow and non-effective as an early 2nd round pick only gaining 913 career rushing yards.  Imagine a team selecting a RB in the 2nd round knowing he'd gain less than 1,000 yards.  He would have been good value if we got him as a UFA

LOL

He ended up being perfectly fine value-wise by springing Freddy and MJD so many times on big runs.

Such a weird take here.

Late 2nd rd pick blows out knee and goes on to be one of the best lead blockers the game has seen in decades = bust
Nah.  Drafted a little bit early?  Maybe.  Bust?  Hell no. You have an odd definition of the word.

C'mon. Dude had some bad injury luck and made the most of what he had left and built off of that quite well. He was also behind Fred freakin Taylor on the depth chart. How many RB snaps did you want him to get exactly?

Anyone who thinks Greg Jones is a bust, doesn't watch football. In 2005 filling in for an injured Freddy T, he bulldozed his way to 500+ yards and looked every bit the heir apparent until he blew out his knee. He was never going to start over FT & MJD so he instead did the smart thing and bulked up to be a FB, and he was frankly the best FB in the league, damn shame that fan voting for the probowl gave the nod to Lorenzo Neal, Whoever blocked for Adrian Peterson, Leonard Weaver etc. ... despite Greg Jones being more integral to the offense and paving the way for more total yards.

People forget that the game was different 14-15 years ago when Greg Jones was drafted, so saying he's a bust in hindsight is disingenuine. Almost every team had a FB still and it wasnt until 2010 ish that they started being fully phased out (as in not rostered rather than on the team with little playing time)
Championship Formula:

1) Draft Trevor Lawrence!
2) Play good physical Defense!
3) Keep 91% of the roster healthy!
4) ???
5) Blank #2
6) CHAMPIONSHIP!!!

Anyone who says a guy is a bust who started at all at any of the non special teams spots for like 8 years, paving the way for top flight running backs, not to mention picking up a spot start here and there, regardless of draft spot, anyone who can say that just has a madden like mentality and isn’t dealing in reality.

I’m sure there will be some draftnik type who will spout off about value this or value that....but getting a starter of that duration is a win regardless.

It is hard to argue even call See-Bass a bust at all.

I remember it wasn't that long ago we didn't have a full back and everyone was so happy when we drafted one due to the anaemic run game

Looks like it's more or less down to Manzo-Lewis and Charles Jones (Tulane TE) at the moment.

Seems more and more that DFilippo doesn't intend to go the traditional FB route, but will utilize more of an H-Back concept.
