I think both parties will end up split within the next 20 years. Buckle up kiddos, here come the Whigs!

In any other country, both parties would have split in 2016.
But in this country, it takes years of planning and tens of millions of dollars to get on the ballot as a candidate for president in all 50 states.
Our parties, as organizations, are basically permanent.  Change agents (like Trump or Sanders) will try to take one or the other over, rather than start their own.
If a guy has enough pull and charisma to get the whole prize, he will try to take over one of the two big parties, and hoard all of its name recognition, and hoard all of the news cycles focused on the primary races in each of the 50 states, rather than take over one of the little ones. The libertarian party doesn't even hold primaries state by state. they just have one convention, that maybe a thousand people attend ,andt it's all over.

I find it amusing that democrats were saying how "divided" the Republican party is/was, and that may be true to a certain extent.

President Trump is not "right wing" or even a conservative.  He's actually pretty center and possibly even a bit on the left.

Democrats have been forced to move further left which is where their danger is.  Do they go as far left as a Bernie Sanders or a AOC (I know she is not eligible to run for President but someone with her "ideals")?  My guess is that anyone older than say 40 and is a Democrat would not do so and would back a more "traditional" Democrat in the upcoming elections.  What is going to hurt them is the millennial uneducated vote and those that want to see Socialism as our form of government.  It's going to be just like the last round of democrat primaries.  The votes will be more for the "more progressive" candidate, yet the DNC will ensure that their chosen one is inserted, even in congressional elections.

It's kind of amusing to watch actually.

My guess and what SHOULD happen is that when AOC, Rashida Tlaib and Ilhan Omar come up for reelection they should be basically "thrown out".  None of them have done anything good and are loons.

There are 10 kinds of people in this world.  Those who understand binary and those who don't.

Proof of how the entire spectrum has shifted to the Left, Trump is a Kennedy Democrat at heart. Always has been, and was quite popular with the Democrats until they went full on Socia-derp-alist

He was popular with Democrats until he started attacking Obama's citizenship because the Democrats weren't going to nominate him.

"Kennedy" is kind of a broad brush. Ted was in that family, sure, but so was Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Stuff is moving all around, but I I wouldn't say it's all moving in the same direction.  Sure, we are closer than ever to having universal health Care, and  gay marriage is recognized in all 50 states, but we're also closer than ever to abortion being banned in many states, and it seems like every other year another state becomes right-to-work.

if you talk to Democrats they will complain that it feels like everything's moving to the right.

And you say it's all moving to the left.

You're both sort of right.

What's actually happening is that the Republican Party is tending to choose candidates that don't even pretend to care what the Democratic party thinks. And the Democratic party is tending to choose candidates who return the favor.
Both parties are being less nice to the other party. There isn't really any net move, to the left or to the right, just a muting of the middle.

He was referring to JFK of course. But you knew that and chose to be a jerk.

I dunno, he's like 20 years old; he might not even know who JFK is.

Donald Trump was 14 years old in the election of 1960.
I don't see how his feelings about JFK could be relevant to anything.
I was being charitable by assuming that he referred to more recent Kennedy family people.

Lol, assumption on your part. I was just stating a fact. Both of what you are and how I feel about it.

Nah, those are opinions, bro.
"Julius Caesar was born in 100 BC" is a fact.
"Julius Caesar was a jerk" is an opinion.

Your opinions are highly entertaining, though.

"Julius Ceasar was acting like a jerk" could be a fact.
