Flash mobs vandalizing stores

#1

Story

"Some 60 teens caused some $7,000 in damage and losses as a flash mob took over a Pa. Walgreens and a cashier was hit over the head in the process, police say.

It happened around 10 p.m. on July 4 in Philadelphia, but police just released the store surveillance video from the South Street Walgreens pharmacy in hopes of identifying and arresting some of the accused looters....."

This is the second time recently this has happened, the other was ten men who went into a North Face store and got out with about $30k worth of merchandise. Very coordinated attack according to authorities. Story

What the heck is wrong with people? The first story it looked like those folks were more interested in being jerks and destroying property. The second incident was definitely one that would be profitable to the thieves. I will never understand this mentality.

I saw that North Face Store video. It's disgusting. They all looked like kids at best. And they didn't even bother hiding their faces. Doesn't surprise me anymore. A few years ago it was the Knock Out game. Hopefully retailers start tightening up security by hiring actual guards.

There's a Sunglass hut in town that literally gets robbed once or twice a month if not more that I am aware of since the beginning of this year. A thief will bounce in, grab a pair or two of sunglasses and bolt out the door. They've yet to be caught. A pair of sunglasses in there runs anywhere between $150.00 - $400.00 on average and they pretty much pay their employees minimum wage and never give them a full forty hours a week to work.

They can afford a security guard to stand there for $40,000+ per year to help ward off grab and dash thieves.

As soon as one of their employees gets punched, shoved down or injured on the job during a robbery I hope they get the living pissed sued out of them for refusing to do anything about it. Most of their employees are women. If you have a consistent problem. You address it. You don't just allow it to fester and fester and fester. That's why they keep coming back off and on.

Bored kids on summer break using messaging apps to coordinate. Where are the parent(s)?

When they catch one, prosecute to the fullest extent and then publicize it to make an example. The alternative is they assault the wrong clerk and end up shot.

Store owners or employees should be able to shoot them on site once the first act of theft or vandalism occurs. Drop a few of those worthless animals dead and the rest of the useless punks might get the idea to not try that crap again. Illegal actions must be met with severe consequence in order to be deterred.

Owners, sure. Hired guards, sure. Cops, absolutely.
But no one should expect the guy stocking shelves or working the cash register to get between a robber and the merchandise.

Loss prevention is one of the responsibilities of the clerk. So get in there and give those thugs the Ol' What For.

I've worked retail. Yes you're expected to keep an eye on people and tell somebody if you see theft. They say if you feel comfortable, you can tell the person,  "I see what you're doing," but by all means they want you to avoid a physical confrontation unless you have been hired and trained as a security guard. Preventing someone from stealing a pair of shoes or a purse full of underwear is not worth the potential workman's comp claim. Of course people with common sense already know that.

I performed a backwards suplex on a guy once for trying to steal a bag chips out of the Subway store I worked at as a kid over on Neptune Beach.

I had no regrets at that time. He ran off anyway. But that was maybe just a month into the job when I was 17 years old. Later on I would regret it when I realized many of my co workers at that time were taking cookies, sandwiches, chips, drinks, etc. for free without any penalties all the time. And they would try to justify it in the strangest of ways. "Well, the owner has a coke problem, so... F em"'.

He wasn't the greatest boss to work for. I'll give them that. But you were still taking money out of his business which directly impacted our paychecks and potential bonus prizes he would give out every month if we nailed the inspection and passed with high remarks. He also had a kid to feed....

I'm just imagining my old coworker from Target way back in the day emptying a magazine on a kid that puts a pack of Pokemon cards in his pocket.

Perhaps not for the business, but for me as an employee it would be well worth it.  I hate (and I don't use that term often) thieves.  I would do everything that I could possibly do to not only catch the coward(s), but also try to beat some common sense into them.

What this whole incident illustrates (the first story) is the perfect example of socialism.  Those that fail to work for something that others have feel that they can just "take it".  Politicians buy votes by promising people like this that they will "take money from the rich and give it to them".  The far left platform that the democrat party has become feeds this.

"Free" Healthcare
"Free" college education indoctrination
"Free" housing
"Free" food

I have not yet seen or heard any of the (24?) candidates from the democrat party talk about opportunity, hard work and/or the ability to achieve the American Dream.  Instead they pander to the "instant gratification" crowd and attempt to essentially buy votes from them.  Social "problems" seems to be the platform that all of them are running on.  No real solutions regarding national security, the economy (other than bad-mouthing those that are actually making money) and doing the core thing that the Federal Government under The Constitution is mandated to do.

Everyone gets upset about thieves.
Maybe you get more upset than the average person.
Maybe you missed your calling to be a security guard?
Wink
Seriously though, there's a huge difference in attitude between taking something that's not yours, versus demanding that the government provide that thing for free or reduced cost to everyone.
One attitude says that you are special and you get to break the rules, and the other says that we should all get together and change the rules but still treat everybody the same. You can call it naive but it's not thievery.

Most taxes are theft. Most sex is not rape. Huge difference.

Income taxation, along with capital gains taxes, property taxes, and FICA are definitely theft. If you refuse to pay those taxes someone with a gun will eventually show up. If your employer refuses to collect them someone with a gun will eventually show up. Those taxes are the bulk of taxes paid by the typical citizen (maybe just the typical productive citizen since welfare recipients don't pay income taxes).
