Stadium condition

#21

About 10 years ago I ran the Tour de Pain, with the 1 miler being run downtown. Afterwards there was free beer and pizza at the Landing for the runners. The poor girls handing out the pizza had a heck of a time turning some homeless guys away, explaining that it was for event participants. Finally, one of them had an absolute meltdown in the middle of the crowd, screaming and throwing his things around. He was calmed down and escorted away by some of the runners. A couple of cops stood on the side and did absolutely nothing.

What gets me is that some are proposing the Landing area be turned into a park, aka, a homeless encampment area. Part of the reason Jacksonville lags other large cities is because our leadership is rife with morons. We've been blessed with all that waterfront property to develop, something other cities would drool over, and yet it remains a place to avoid. Hopefully Khan can get the idiots in charge, and their voters, to see the light.

The last few years going down there after sunset meant you had about a 50/50 chance of being in proximity to a violent crime.

Not surprising but I left in 2011 and I'm sure the area has declined since then. I used to want to live downtown but it was hella expensive.

There was a "park" put in years ago next to the Burrito Gallery parking lot. It is now fenced in to keep the homeless people from hanging out there. Jacksonville leadership logic: Let's build a BIGGER park! You can't fix stupid.

There was a Springfield revival going on at one point. They were even doing new builds. This city just can't get anything right when it comes to downtown.

The good news is that FBC's footprint on downtown seems to be shrinking, so maybe in my grand kids lifetime, something cool will happen down there.

Now that the FBC is selling a bunch of their properties, there might be hope for revitalizing downtown.

If I was a billionaire I'd surround the FBC properties with strip clubs.

Home games can be boring sometimes. Stadiums like the Patriots and Packers seem to be closer to the field.

TIAA Field needs a dome over it, and about 10 rows closer to the field.
