Why are the Democrats more mad about this than they were about Obama and Yemen?

Trump Derangement Syndrome, man. I don't mean that as a pejorative, either. Folks on the left and right are suffering from it. It sure is handy for exposing the establishment, though.

From your article from the fake NYT.

My best guess is that there may have been a blurb in a daily report regarding an investigation into allegations, but nothing was deemed credible.

Ask yourself this.  Why would Taliban fighters need a monetary incentive to kill U.S. troops?

Fake NYT? Quoting Trumpettes now, are we? When did you become so intellectually lazy?

Read more about it. It was fringe groups willing to do anything for money.

Again.  It was all unsubstantiated and an ongoing investigation.

Neither the President nor the top officials in Congress were briefed on any specific threat.  The small sliver of intelligence was leaked to the fake NYT and they ran with it.

What should be more disturbing is the leaking of classified information to the press, no matter how insignificant it might be.

The insignificance is part of the article that you linked.

Quote:But three separate Taliban sources told Insider they were aware of Russian bounty payments being made — though they said only the less-disciplined elements on the fringes of the group would take up such an offer.

But RUSSIA, RUSSIA, RUSSIA!

Rep. Schiff's Anti-Trump Crusade Backfires, Report Says His Staff Knew of Russian Bounty Plan Months Ago

A new report raises serious questions regarding what House Intelligence Committee Chairman Rep. Adam Schiff knew about bounties allegedly paid by Russia to Taliban-linked terrorists for killing American soldiers, and when he knew it.

I find it very hard to believe that all eight members of the gang of eight would deny receiving this briefing.
The most likely explanation is they never got it.

Trump wants out, so let’s kill troops to motivate trump into staying... that’s absurd.

There has been some speculation about the motive that I have read.  It has to do with this incident:

https://www.newsweek.com/total-f-russian...ens-818073

A force of about 500, including a couple of hundred Syrian government troops, backed up by several hundred Russian mercenaries, attacked about 40 US troops.  The US troops called in air support and the attacking forces got hammered really badly.  And there are recordings of the Russian mercenaries on their phones complaining about it.  Apparently a lot of Russians were killed in the encounter.  No US soldiers were killed.

That actually happened, but whether this is any part of the motivation for the Russians to pay bounties to the Taliban for killing US soldiers is of course speculative.

This is the first I'd heard of this. I also read the VOA link from the link above. Geezus, what a massacre. The person recorded in the phone calls summed it up by asking if those in charge thought the Americans would simply run. There's speculation that our forces knew they were Russian, but our response was still to raise our flag and commence to annihilate.

The White House knew of this in 2019 and did nothing. Trump was briefed again on Friday and then spent the next two days golfing.

Quote:The intelligence in 2019 and 2020 surrounding Russian bounties was derived in part from debriefings of captured Taliban militants. Officials with knowledge of the matter told the AP that Taliban operatives from opposite ends of the country and from separate tribes offered similar accounts.

Any update on this?
