Very probably a pipe dream, but the idea isn't without merit.

Why will draft night be epic next year?

Sure we've got a ton of picks.  That just means there will be more commercials.

Not really thinking of Clowney at this point.

I wouldn't mind him here, but I'm not expecting him here.

Time to commence the Chase On the quarterbacks

You guys can say what you will about Caldwell, but generally speaking, he manages to get some decent value when trading away guys.

He got a 6 for Gabbert
He got 2 1sts and a 4th for Ramsey
He got a 4 for Bouye
a 5 for a 34 year old Calais Campbell
now the 2 and the conditional 5 for Yan.

I hate this team allowing so much talent to walk, though.  The team needs to improve on player retention.

I mean the Calais one wasn't good value for us and Bouye and Yannick about what was expected.

Gabbert and Ramsey good value for sure, and Scobee might have been his best ever

By my count that's 9 picks in the first five rounds.

I am disappointed we only got the two and conditional five, but considering we drafted him for a 3, got a Pro bowl and numerous sacks and game changing play out of him at a premium position, and got him out of the conference for a 2 and another pick ranging anywhere from a 5 to a 3, not too too bad.  My preferenc would have been to keep him, but at least it's over.

You are up now, K'Lavon!

He should benefit by playing on turf and with some more leads.

Incorrect Bullseye. From my understanding the conditional 5th round pick is for 2022. Not 2021 like the second round pick.

I stand corrected.

So by my count, we have 8 instead of 9.  Still not too bad.

No. There's no point. It's not like we're gonna be good either way. Besides, Clowney is vastly overrated. No need to break the bank on a guy who has never reached double digit sacks.

Chaisson was one of the youngest players in the draft. He does have a lot of potential, but may need some time to develop. By all accounts he has an elite work ethic and is all business in his approach to his craft. I do not think that he will produce a Yan level of productivity this year.
Respect the game.  Play with a sense of urgency.

1.)  Take care of the ball.  Win the turnover battle.

2.)  It's all about 3rd down.  Win on 3rd down to win the game.

3.) Playmakers make plays.  The only reason that you put your uniform on is to make plays. In order to EARN your paycheck, you must make plays.

Still not sure I agree with your assessment on Calais though.  Were it us getting Calais from the Ravens for the 5th rounder, we'd be trashed for taking on that salary and spending a pick on a 34 year old guy showing signs of decline.

Now, all we get is a low 2nd rounder (as the Vikings should win their division) and what will likely be a 5th round pick. At best, it could be a 4th rounder as I don't see Minnesota winning a Superbowl. To go through all this drama for so long and to get such a paltry return is a HUGE disappointment, but I'm used to such things. It's been this way since 1995, so why would anything change now? We lose Calais Campbell and trade Yannick Ngakoue, so once again, what was once a strength of the team, becomes a weakness. I like Josh Allen a lot, (he is my favorite defensive player,) but without someone on the other side, I expect his sack numbers to go down.

This is my biggest on field concern at this point.

I do not believe Chaisson will be able to command attention from the other side, nor do I think our DTs will be able to draw attention either.  Allen will pretty much be on his own.

I hope Chaisson proves me wrong.

I was furious when we selected Chaisson. I had him as the most overrated player in the entire draft. I think the guy has draft "bust" written all over him. He was drafted strictly for his athletic ability and certainly not for his underwhelming production on the field. I too hope and pray he proves me wrong though, but I just don't see it. I think we're gonna have to use one of those first 4 picks in the 2021 draft to take an edge pass rusher.

I know the Caldwell haters are gonna hate, but even if he doesn't make it through this year, he's set his successors up for, well, success. Cap space, a cheap QB contract, a ton of picks, and minimal malcontents going in to 2021. I guess Gene Smith, the pandemic, freak injuries and Gus Bradley could screw it up, but not much else.

I hope to God, we don't have to package picks to move up and get Trevor Lawrence. We have so many holes, we're gonna need all the picks we can get. Please be a franchise QB, Gardner Minshew!

I wasn't "furious," but I was not happy with the pick.  When I see Chaisson, I see the burst, but I don't see the bulk/strength, productivity or durability yet.

Maybe he can grow unto it, but I don't know.  In many ways, I see a Barkevious Mingo with more burst.

I still believe that Bryan and Smoot can play a big role.

Agreed completely.

The worst thing for this team would be that Minshew is good,  but not be good enough to be the franchise signal caller, yet win enough games so that we are out of position to Land Lawrence (or Fields) without having to trade up.  That's assuming Lawrence and Fields were to be draft eligible and declare. If one or both stayed in school another year (hopefully this damn pandemic will be ancient history fast), that also falls into that worst case scenario.

My main two observations:

1. It's a massive indictment on our FO that Jalen, ARob and Yannick have all left this franchise without a second contract. Especially when you consider the contracts we have given out in that time frame.

2. This franchise is in a position to build a very good roster that could put us in contention for many years to come. Between this year and next year's drafts, and the young talent already on the roster, we could be set up well.

Of course, the first one is a fact, whereas the second one is a hypothetical for the future. Which means we will probably find a way to screw the pooch.

Only because we aren't contending. It was widely hailed as one of the best value moves of the offseason from the Ravens standpoint

I think we will really need Smoot to be good this year. I loved what I saw from him last season. The extra bulk he added really made him look stronger without losing any speed. I think a lot of people are sleeping on him. I'm hoping he can add 7-8 sacks this year and generate a decent pass rush. As for Taven Bryan, my expectations are super low. He's done absolutely nothing to justify his first round selection so far and I'm not expecting that to change. I have 3 technique as a HUGE need in the 2021 draft.

I'm not a huge fan of Caldwell but I agree he did a pretty good job with this one and has show an ability to get value for trades. To get a 2 and a 5 for a 3rd round malcontent who's basically a pass rush specialist (even one who outplayed his draft position) is pretty good considering teams knew we were trying to get rid of him. Kudos.
I'm condescending. That means I talk down to you.

Frustratingly, I think it's probably the most likely scenario too. I could easily seeing us going 6-10 and the jury still being very much out on Minshew at the end of the year.
